This week the CA High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) convened to consider the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for the Palmdale to Burbank section of the project and I submitted a letter encouraging additional protections and benefits for our community. Due in large part to my advocacy, the HSRA selected the preferred route that has the least impact on the Foothill Communities; however, there is still work to be done. I asked the HSRA to create job training and business compensation programs for the businesses that will be displaced to construct the portal, to provide the same protections for existing housing on industrially zoned land as houses on residentially zoned land and to establish a community advisory committee to review community haul routes and to establish proper mitigations.

I created Operation Bright S.P.O.T (OBS) to supplement existing city resources, to beautify commercial corridors in our community and to respond quickly to blight. OBS recently removed overgrown weeds/vegetation from the Sunland and Pacoima areas.
These locations were identified thanks to dedicated community members who reported the problem areas. To curb the negative impacts of fireworks, I am also proud to pioneer drones in the San Fernando Valley and made the shift for social, environmental and public safety reasons including pet protection. Addressing blight in our neighborhoods like graffiti, illegal dumping, bulky items and broken streetlights and other out-of-repair city infrastructure is a top priority for me and my team. The Oro Vista Avenue Project aims to add green infrastructure that will help capture and treat stormwater that flows through the Sunland-Tujunga community. As part of this project, trees and shrubs will be planted along Oro Vista Avenue from the Haines Canyon Channel to Wyngate Street. We want YOUR suggestions for what species of trees and shrubs should be planted to beautify the community!
El Proyecto de la Avenida Oro Vista tiene como objetivo agregar infraestructura verde a lo largo de la calle para ayudar a capturar, tratar e infiltrar algunas de las aguas pluviales que fluyen a través de la comunidad de Sunland-Tujunga.
