#LouvreALaLoupe !

#LouvreDetails ! Today, focus on the two Chassériau sisters. 🔎
-
👭🏻 The painter Théodore Chassériau depicts in this double portrait his two sisters, Aline and Adèle. Hidden behind the animated drapery of red and gold fabrics, their silhouette forms a single body with two heads.
-
🖌 Aline, on the left, brushes against the lighter part of the wall while Adele stands out on the darker part. They are framed, at the corners, diagonally, by a carved doorframe, top right, and by a table corner, bottom left.
-
👀 Here, the painter rivals the portraits painted by his master Ingres, and breaks new ground with this double portrait in which the models are identically dressed and coiffed. It’s also a testimony to the love between sisters and brother, visible in the intertwining of hands and the softness of gazes.
