I am always on the lookout for new props to use in my photography. I recently read an article about a woman who is a basket weaver and there was a picture of her with all these reeds around her. It was inspiring and I knew I had to get some. Fast-forward to my session with Brooke and here I am pulling out this mass of tangled reeds and asking her to play with them. Natural light. Oh, how I love to play with the natural light. Often I ask my clients if they can feel the light on their face. Do you ever do that, close your eyes and just feel the sun shining down? As much as I love cloudy days, there is something about collaborating with the sun to create beautiful images that thrills me. During an outdoor session, I constantly watch for how the sun is playing upon the landscape or my client as they walk before me. There, stop just there, I see it, I adjust them just a little and I snap the shot. Inspiration can pop up anywhere in my life. I look for it, stay open to it, and embrace it when it comes. I save images and color palettes. Write down ideas and concepts. I have started putting together inspiration boards for my clients, so that they can get excited about what we are going to create. This image with Morgan was inspired by Renée Magritte's painting, The Son of Man. We took that idea and made it our own. Creativity happens when people get together and are open and vulnerable to the process. Fabric has a mind of it's own. When creating with fabric, I enjoy seeing the random ways it will fall or wrap around the body of my subject. I am always thrilled when the fabric does something unique and unexpected, like in the this shot.
