Yellow Peril came out a year ago just about this month. It’s been a year unlike any other, both highs and lows. I gained a lot, but lost some things that were priceless. Some things blooms, other things implode, and the bitter mixes with the sweet equally. Yellow Peril went number one on the blues billboard, I’ve played the Opry, Australia, Europe, & all across this beautiful land, opened for bands I truly admire and love, met supporters & enjoyers of these sounds I’ve made, & broken bread with strangers who are now family with me, brothers and sisters I’ll know til I gotta kick the ol bucket. It brings me to tears.
Many of y’all might not know, but I left Easy Eye & im eternally grateful for the team there & at Concord for keeping my spirits up, even though we all knew what was goin on. The lesson I learned, when someone punches down on ya, they can’t beat you too far when you was born in the bedrock, when you bleed it too. They ain’t worth the blood and tears. Don’t forget the ones who picked you back up, & put the reins back in your corner. They remind ya your self-worth when you ain’t able to remind yourself. But like most lessons worth learning, you gotta learn em the hard way. Don’t play no second fiddle to nobody but your own damn music. Grateful ain’t the half of what I feel. Long story short, thank you to all y’all for the love & appreciation, it lifts my spirit & keeps me lit even when the way seems dark.
