The recent stance from the White House on gender-affirming care for transgender youth is deeply concerning. Denying access to necessary medical treatment contradicts principles of equality and compassion. Transgender youth should have the same rights as their cisgender peers when it comes to healthcare decisions. Limiting access to gender-affirming care goes against medical expertise and ignores the well-being of young transgender individuals. We urge the Biden administration to align its position with medical experts. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the One Colorado Queer Youth Summit scheduled for July 13th, 2024 at Western Colorado University has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and understand the disappointment surrounding this event. However, we are excited to extend a special invitation to all registered youth to attend our upcoming Youth Advocacy Retreat in October in Denver. This retreat will empower young advocates through enriching experiences and connections with other youth advocates. Today, we celebrate a tremendous victory for bodily autonomy and human dignity. One Colorado working with the Freedom for all Coloradans Committee just defeated a ballot initiative proposed by far-right activists that could have banned gender affirming care (GAC) for minors in Colorado by prohibiting healthcare providers from talking to a patient about their options for GAC or performing any procedures, including providing medications, even with parental and minor consent. Today, far right activists are collecting signatures on the remaining two initiatives, a forced outing initiative and a ban on transgender girls in sports. Coloradans will not stand for such hateful attacks on our community.
