HMCC Sussex 014: Tyrepower | 14th July Join us for 60km of all-terrain no-drop party-pace shred-ding. 🚲 09.00 meet, 09.30 depart from Brewhouse & Kitchen in Worthing. A few climbs, a few joyous descents, and finishing up for a pint or two at The Red Lion in Shoreham. Bring a gravel bike or MTB, spares, snacks, and good vibes. Also, if you can, have access to the route. It’s a no-drop ride, but it never hurts to know the way.

A bleary-eyed speed edit post @thewoodscyclery New Forest excursion with @curvecycling on their UK tour. Dreamy conditions, the best bits of the forest…the Peak District will need to bring its A game for those guys.

Lucky number 13, and are you ever in luck this month! As we endure a classic British Summer™️, HMCC Sussex ride 013 seeks to follow the most reliable, well-drained gravel tracks and bridleways. These are generally on high ground…which means we have to go UP. And, in the words of the ride’s namesake: “no rise without the fall”. So, make sure you have plenty of brake pad. As per usual, it’s a relaxed and no-drop ride. However there’s no getting away from the climbing involved in this one, so be prepared for a little anaerobic respiration from time to time, and maybe a little walk. Pub stop halfway in Burpham to refuel/reduce pain. We roll out at 09.30 sharp. Komoot link in bio.

Objectively, @piercitycycles & @valkyriepaintworks stole the show – and that’s before factoring in antics during the after-party. Queues out the door, a hundred new iterations of the NineT being dreamt up, and a thousand conversations about glow-in-the-dark ooze. Playing even just my small part in the process was hard work but limitlessly entertaining. Now we flip the calendar and start the work all over again. #bsms2024 #thebikeshedshow #custombike #bmwmotorrad #r9tgram #akira #microfourthirds #gx80

A prime example of almost-didn’t-get-my-bike-out. Pretty rubbish day, weather supremely off-putting, but belligerence once again rewarded. @porteur_rides @porteurbikesandcoffee delivering the goods, as usual.

Wild times in the lowlands of West Sussex for @heavymetalcycling Sussex ride #012 . On a scorcher of a weekend, we found the wettest, sloppiest, stinkiest and most mosquito-infested bridleways around. And yet, we had a bloody good time. If that scratches *your* itch, come along next month.

HMCC Sussex 012: Pulborough Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr Meeting at 09.00 (or thereabouts) at Barnham station. We’ll clamber across the West Sussex countryside via gravel tracks, bridleways, and a dab of asphalt here and there. This route is not obscenely hilly for the South Downs, but it’s not exactly flat either. A more important factor is that the route does not pass close to any major towns, so riders should be suitably prepared with spares, snacks and a self-sufficient attitude. We’ll have a pub stop along the way, but that will mean we don’t want to hang around too much along the route. As always, a pub finish for some recovery bevarages. There are a handful of trains arriving at the right time, which should serve people travelling from Brighton and London pretty well.

It’s been months since the last occasion, but I finally spotted a shot that might be nice and then took the picture and it turned out that it was nice. Nice.

“Chasseur” One shot to neatly sum up the vibe of today’s @porteur_rides edition. Shout-out to @martin.aylward , who pushed on through the memories of last night’s tequila unflinchingly. C/S.

HMCC Sussex 011. A super-chill edition for the start of spring, perfect for anyone just dusting off the bike after winter. While there are a few climbs (it's the South Downs after all), we'll be taking our time, taking in the surroundings, and testing out some trails I've not ridden before. The winter has been pretty soggy so there may be mud, overgrown bits, who knows – but we'll hike-a-bike our way through anything tricky. There'll be a stop at the Shepherd & Dog in Fulking, but do bring snacks. An extra layer would probably be wise too. RSVP and route on Strava.
