Well hello there👋 it’s nice to see ya! I’ve been happily busy this last year so guess it’s announcement time:
Excited to say that I built a recording studio here in Nashville called @realtoneranch that will be the hub of mine and @goldentonepop ‘s creative endeavors for this next turn-of-the-page. (Go give ‘em a follow, will ya?!) It’s a one-of-a-kind space that it is the result of many years of love and sweat and tears and gear. Destination recording at its very best. I love making records and supporting artists so much, that it was high time to outfit a proper recording and production space—one I’m truly proud of.
All that said, there’s a lot of new music coming down the pipeline this year, both for myself and artists I’ve been working with. Songs and shows and travels and many more novelties. Couldn’t have done it all without the help of many, not least @evan_duby & @dougiscool456 Can’t wait to share it all and hope to see you down here at the Ranch! :-) Photo by @jeremydvarner

New York: such a joy to be back playing my originals for you. Thanks for reminding me why we’re forever “bridge ‘n tunnel paesanos” (inextricably linked like the Van Wyck and the Whitestone) for giving me your all—for the slice of Joe’s en route to the LIRR, AND for the nice lil’ sinus infection too 🙃 Lots of love to @julianvelard for asking me to hop on his lineup… loved hearing him and singing with him IRL, not on the damned internet. Many more mornings of huevos rancheros to this power rhythm section of @briankilleenbass and @daveleblancdrums ANDDDD of course all these wonderful photos by NYTimes-published @jeremydvarner … ‘Til we meet again!

Big news this week! “Defend The Hyphen” by The Well-Informed comes out this Friday, April 19th on @goldentonepop . This is @paullorenmusic and my 2nd release under the moniker. It’s a project we love doing but have seldom prioritized over the past decade. Life can be like that. You can love something but not put it first. That’s really how we came to our title. Well, that may be a touch false. We first though it funny that people would be attacking us for using a hyphen in our band’s name. That would imply enough people knew about the band to get agitated over our grammatical choices. That made us chuckle so we went with it. But hopefully art has enough durability to take on interpretations. For me on some days, “Defend The Hyphen” means take ownership of your life, the dash being the time you spend on the planet. Maybe it means put your time and energy into the things and people you really love. Stay the course, take the hill and all that stuff. What I know, I just made it up. And so should you. To all those who stay on the sidelines waiting for when the time is write to do some creative project, may this record be your soundtrack. Listen to “One & Only Life” and get to work. Amazing folks on this record include: @thekantor @esmatteo @salcedomusic @mattowenstrumpet @cdubylaw @loretta_duby @tytuschenguitar
The record that no one is waiting for is finally here. Friday, April 19th. Pre-save link to stream it in my bio. #analoggear #vinyl #justinbieber

Here I am simultaneously miserably freezing AND happily sunning on a river in west Tennessee, adorned in crocs and borrowed outerwear—a wonderful metaphor for 2023. ‘Twas a growing year in many ways… up against the elements, but keeping on the sunny side of it all. Both cases are often true. I made some things, and some other things made me. Grateful to have the most wonderful people in my life and folks to enjoy the songs I sing, dishes I cook and the cat dad jokes I tell. It means so much and can’t wait to build upon it all in the next year (/decade!) Much love and goodness to you and yours this holiday season. May you be safe and healthy and tolerant to those who don’t see things the way you do. Art saves lives. War is over, if you want it. Let’s break some bread together. Love you. 📷 @avoytek

Here are some songs I’ve loved; some songs I keep going back to; some songs I wanted to find a way into. It’s all a nice kick-off for summer, l’d say. They were recorded a long while ago in NY with the greats @albis_music & @zachjonesmusic — and you’ll be sure to their elegant touches throughout. Mixed it all in Nashville just a few months ago and now it’s unchained and untethered, aka “available on all streaming platforms.” As with all the others in this series, my grandfather took the cover photo some 50-something years ago :) @goldentonepop @officialnilsson @thecars @genesis_band @eagles @the_carpenters_official

Here’s where you’d normally see a profoundly insightful quote from a favorite author or maybe some choice lyrics from one of my own songs. Instead it’s just me, in an RV, reading Life magazine, saying “have a nice weekend.” That’s all for now. pic by @annaazarov

Let’s stay in touch the old-fashioned way. Just because I’ve been limiting my phone usage and social media posts lately—that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy making things… Quite the opposite, in fact! Have you followed me on your streaming platform-of-choice yet? Spotify and Apple Music will alert you on my upcoming and new releases. There are new videos every month on the YouTube channel as well. Do ya follow me there? Like I said, “the old-fashioned way.” :-) photos by @annaazarov taken @chanadohills

When ya grow up where ‘n when I did, you couldn’t quite avoid @billyjoel (not that I ever wanted to)… his songs became the soundtrack to the rose-colored film of my childhood. I always thought the tunes on “An Innocent Man” were amazing as SONGS, and could stand on their own when taken out of the 50/60’s-influenced production (albeit from 1983). ‘The Longest Time’ seemed like the perfect song for stripping away some of that lovely-peppy-doo-wop-ness and for bringing out some bittersweetness, here on display thanks to the gorgeous string quartet. It was a nice experiment in reclaiming some of its poignancy. Love is all things, and most of those things are right here in this song—longing, loss, hope, caution, fancy. Happy Valentine’s Day 💌 Strings are @ludovicaburtone @tia.ivonne @emilyhopeprice Arranged, produced and mixed by me. Out now on @goldentonepop
