✨PRIDE STORIES✨ ❤️🩷💜💙🩵💚💛🧡 Happy Pride Month from Penny Lane Centers! This month we are sharing some LGBTQ+ success stories. Meet Kadence- A client who was motivated by the prospect of a better opportunity after being homeless. They participated in our LGBTQ+ safe space support group to discuss topics affecting the community. Kadence also participated in our TAY drop in center where they obtained case management assistance and supportive services (life skills, job search, laundry and personal hygiene resources). We admire strong clients like Kadence who choose perseverance over giving up. These stories motivate us to keep transforming people’s lives. . . @transwellnesscenter . . #pennylanecenters #pridemonth #transyouth #transpride #loveislove #edgyconference

✨MEET ELIZABETH✨ When Elizabeth started Intensive Services she was a very timid individual wanting to gain self-confidence. Elizabeth had a difficult time socializing with others and advocating for her needs. She remained consistent every week meeting with her child and family specialist as well as her therapist to work on improving her social skills and building her self-esteem. Addressing her mental health needs became her priority. Elizabeth was always engaged during sessions and would always follow through with suggestions such as daily positive affirmations. By one year in Intensive Services Elizabeth enjoyed making new friends, got a job, and made self-care a priority. With the support of Intensive Services and her own hard work, Elizabeth blossomed into a social butterfly. The Intensive Services team is very proud of her healing journey and how much independence she has gained. She was accepted into college and plans on achieving all her goals physically, mentally, and emotionally. With great pleasure the team graduated Elizabeth from Intensive Services and feels confident she will continue to excel in everything she sets her mind on. ✨ABBEY ROAD GARDEN PARTY✨ This Thursday we are throwing it back to May 30th! That Thursday marked the 15th Anniversary Celebration for Abbey Road which was held in the garden of Penny Lane’s North Hollywood office. Our inaugural fundraising event was a great success in large part due to our Sponsors who demonstrated their companies commitment to the development of affordable housing in Los Angeles County by providing critically needed funds to provide a Road to Home for some of the most vulnerable people in our community. We are so grateful for their support! Those who attended enjoyed a fun-filled evening with delicious food and entertainment which included some amazing tunes from Penny Lane Board member and songstress extraordinaire, Kathy Cunningham and music to make you want to move from DJ Max. Our Sun Commons team provided tours of our recently completed 103 unit building adjacent to Penny Lane’s office building, for interested partygoers so they could gain a deeper understanding of how we utilize both our project funding as well as our philanthropic dollars. Thank all of you for supporting us and for understanding the importance of the work we are doing every day! . . abbey-road.org . . #housing #gardenparty #community #pennylanecenters #transitionalhousing #abbey-road

✨LGBTQ+ GARDEN PARTY 2024✨ This Pride Thursday we are throwing it back to last month when we hosted our 4th Annual LGBTQ+ Garden Party. It was the perfect day for the event as it was sunny with a breeze and a high amount of happiness in the air. A live DJ, dancing and an amazing drag show brought out the fun while some heartwarming presentations and stories inspired all in attendance. Art prepared by some of our LGBTQ+ clients were auctioned off with part of the proceeds going back to the artist. The event lasted a few hours but I know anyone that was there was touched and moved long after they left the party. Check it out! . pennylane.org . . #pennylanecenters #lgbtq #gardenparty #love

✨HAPPY JUNETEENTH DAY✨ After the Union Army captured New Orleans in 1862, slave owners in Confederate states migrated to Texas with more than 150,000 enslaved Black persons. For 3 years, even after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved Black Americans in Texas remained in brutal bondage, immorally and illegally deprived of their freedom and basic dignity. On June 19, 1865 — over 2 years after President Lincoln declared all enslaved persons free — Major General Gordon Granger and Union Army troops marched to Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free the last enslaved Black Americans in Texas. Those who were freed from bondage celebrated their long-overdue emancipation on June 19. Today, Penny Lane Centers commemorates Juneteenth: a chance to celebrate human freedom, reflect on the grievous and ongoing legacy of slavery, and rededicate ourselves to rooting out the systemic racism that continues to plague our society as we strive to deliver the full promise of America to every person. Juneteenth is a day to reflect on both bondage and freedom — a day of both pain and purpose. It is, in equal measure, a remembrance of both the long, hard night of slavery and subjugation, as well as a celebration of the promise of a brighter morning to come. It is also a day to celebrate the power and resilience of Black Americans, who have endured generations of oppression in the ongoing journey toward equal justice, equal dignity, equal rights, and equal opportunity in America. . . . . . #juneteenth #juneteenthcelebration✊🏿❤️🖤💚 #pennylanecenters #community

✨🌈GET YOUR EDGY CONFERENCE TICKETS🌈✨ Join us June 13th at the Skirball Cultural Center for our 14th Annual EDGY Conference. Get your early bird tickets now before it’s too late!! Penny Lane Centers proudly presents EDGY (Embracing the Diversity of GLBTQ+ Youth and families), a one-day conference to build awareness and cultural competency, learn current and emerging best practices as well as gather resources from leading experts and organizations to create a more supportive environment for LGBTQ+ youth and families. The world we live in continues to be a challenge for LGBTQ+ individuals. The divisiveness of the current political climate especially during an election cycle causes a lot of anxiety and frankly fear in LGBTQ+ populations as some espouse “don’t say gay” bills and try to ban drag and deny gender affirming care to transgender youth. All of this makes allyship much more important since no one or no group can make change by themselves. Now instead of fighting for rights it is a battle to maintain the hard-won rights that have been attained over the past decades. How do you fit in to this picture? How can you help or show your support? Why is this important for each of us regardless of how we may identify? Being part of the EDGY conference as an attendee, presenter, sponsor, or volunteer is a good start. The issues of LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies seem to be constant fodder for new stories but unfortunately not in positive ways. In a world where we all seek a safe space to be who we choose to be and love who we love how do we find a way to not be afraid? Rhetoric and reality often don’t align in many parts of the country we live in and we all see that creeping closer to us daily. We must join and push back as we have truth and common human decency on our side. We want to be your ally and through our workshops and presentations empower you to help move forward. Attending EDGY will give you knowledge and resources to be part of the solution. . . ✨✨TICKETS✨✨ . . #pennylanecenters #lgbtq #loveall #ally #wesaygay #conference #education #inclusivity
