Whodamanny’s second 12” on Periodica sub-label Biloba is ‘Miranda,’ and here, the West Hill producer and DJ explores equatorial grooves and evocative fantasies across four eclectic versions, with an influence of late 80s/early 90s Italo magic threading into the productions. In the Radio Version, sunset guitars weave through celebratory brass as voices sing lovelorn lyricisms over exotic dance beats, while in the Instrumental, more space is given for the rhythms to move the body, and for warming keys to color the joyous flow. Elswhere, the Midnite Mix sets dreamhouse pianos and heady vocal loops to serpentine bass and proto-progressive rhythms—the vibe minimal and mystical—and in the Dub version, tropical pads, and balearic guitars refract through webs of echo as aqueous synths swim towards the sun! For their second LP "Elios" on Periodica Records, musical collective “Parbleu” -  led by Andres Balbucea and Andrea De Fazio - reach towards realms both astral and ancient to present a solar sonic suite of sky-seeking exotica inspired by the mythological adventures of Helios. Elemental grooves anchor textures of cosmic magic and faraway fantasy, wherein panoramic conga and bongo displays lead to limbo line hysteria and fat-bottomed bass grooves slide through layers of galactic grease. Phaser riffs and flangers arps fly in unison, lyrical runs dart and dash through flourishes of baroque Turkish psychedelia, and as moonbeam lasers fire over thrilling balearic escapes, Iberian reeds dance joyously amidst jangling six-string sunstrokes. BILOBA 101 • Whodamanny - Baila Chica (Disco Mix) Raffaele “Whodamanny” Arcella is an integral member behind all the projects emanating from the West Hill Studio and released on Periodica Records, guiding the sounds and vibes with his unique mixing skills and eclectic musical tastes. Some time ago, Raffaele proposed to us curating his own personal release catalog inspired by his sonic research and DJ experiences—something fresh, without frills, and effective in clubs—with a clear reference to the characteristic Latin flavors that permeated Italo-Disco during the back half of the 80s. At that point, we begin to conceive a series of super limited disco mixes purchasable only from Bandcamp, and now the first slab of dancefloor fire has arrived in the form of the “Baila Chica” single by @whodamanny_biloba himself opening the new <<BILOBA>> catalogue. The “Serie Pegaso” catalog stems from the need to write music and lyrics that have a strong link with the city of Naples, that speak the same language and tell it through stories, loves and memories. There are countless stories and testimonies of people who left the "land of the sun" to migrate elsewhere in search of fortune and work but not many know that there is a small bird, the “Capinera”, which has instead decided to do the inverted path through a long journey from cold and distant lands to then settle and find a new home on Mount Vesuvius. But there is also another story, between reality and legend, which is that of the most beautiful woman in the neighborhood called by everyone 'A Capinera because of her long and enchanting black hair. She was a widow coveted and desired by all but she will remain faithful to her deceased husband throughout her life. The only source of livelihood for herself and her three children was the smuggling cigarette trade although she could choose and get whatever she wanted thanks to her irresistible beauty. This is what the creators of the Capinera project tell us, and they are: Gianpaolo Della Noce (better known as Dnapoli and half of the acclaimed diggers duo Napoli Segreta), Michele Cesare aka Breakstarr (one of the pillars of the city's beat makers scene) both assisted by the scratchy and warm voice of Adriana Salomone. Together with the production team led by Dario di Pace (Mystic Jungle) and Raffaele "Whodamanny" Arcella the result is the nostalgic and exotic reggae-pop in Neapolitan colors of "Il Volo" (today in exclusive preview on Spotify) and the sparkling disco infected “Suonno” (check presale on Bancamp to listen to it). Little Italy - Fragments After a long gestation that lasted about two years we were finally able to release this project on @futuribilenapoli • It all started when one evening a friend of ours pointed out an unreleased song (Nassau) made by a semi-unknown band very active in the Neapolitan area in the early 80s that was one step away from signing a contract with the historic Bagaria (Pino Daniele ) but which then broke up and all their material ended up in oblivion. Thanks to the invaluable help of Gigliola Izzo and Canio Loguercio (respectively voice and songwriter) as well as the indispensable technical contribution of Manny Whodamanny, we were able to restore the most interesting songs directly from the only cassettes in circulation. Swimming is the first release on Periodica International, and finds Daniel Monaco collaborating with MC Matsui for two tracks of oceanic esoterica, wherein grooves of spaced out disco and mediterranean funk meet textures of early electro and hip-hop. Skeletal dancefloor drums anchor flamboyant basslines as they work between liquid smoothness and a staccato pulse, cosmic keyboard accents melt down like starlight, and synth leads snake through solos of alien baroque and Arabian exotica while palm-muting guitars and tropical mallet flourishes add further colorations. And guiding the grooves are the lysergic musings, spoken word serenades, and proto-rap poetics of MC Matsui, who comes off like a stoned mystic wandering the beach as turtles and dolphins call him out to sea.
