I haven't posted on my grid in so long! But I've been quietly stitching and by the end of this evening i should have finished these #RoseStarQuilt blocks for my taken-longer-than-two-years-already project that I've been calling my #RubyStarHexiesAndKites quilt. There are 12 blocks in total and after a lot of playing around I *think* I've figured out how to arrange and join them...this isn't it! I'm popping in to join in with Lucy @@charmaboutyou and #SaturdayNightCraftAlong 🥰 I've been quiet on insta but have been keeping busy (and trying to stay calm and reasonably sane) with lots of slow stitching. These four #RoseStarQuilt blocks are all stitched together, and I've nearly finished another. And there are 8 more all basted and ready to stitch, I'm on a roll...I'm still thinking about how to connect them all. I've discovered that the best cure for flying anxiety is EPP! I think I'm finally learning to work with my brain rather than against it! For weeks I've known I'm going away this weekend, to celebrate a big birthday of a much-loved family matriarch. I wanted to make her a gift, as she is one of the people in my life who has most inspired me to make and sew. I've had AGES to do this, BUT I've also had an absolute shitload of big LIFE STUFF going on, which has messed with my muse. So instead of freaking out about what a terrible person I am, I've gradually rummaged through my stash of thrifted shirts, linen and improv orphan blocks, in between getting on with all the tedious life admin, and the not tedious but intense and tiring holding of space for my loved ones and their challenges. And last night, 36 hours before I'm due to get on a plane to fly solo to gather with family far away, I found the missing pieces of the puzzle, and my hands knew what to do 💙❤️🩷🖤 #Neurospicy #ImprovQuilting

Recently I have had to take a break from EPP after having cataract surgery. I should have got my machine out and worked on one of my improv WIPs, but it was impossible to resist playing with fabric combos for yet another new potential quilt project...I'm considering trying to actually follow a pattern 😱 I have a mental block about this but I quite fancy a challenge - we shall see! Had a visit from my lovely friend @oohlalapinart yesterday and despite the rain we enjoyed exploring some lesser known corners of Bristol...we both love to walk and potter about, and we're inspired by colour and pattern, so it was a joy to finally find this wonderful bit of quilt-inspired public art designed by @adamnathanielfurman - I've been meaning to go and see it for ages but it was obviously meant to be a shared experience with lovely Lou 💛 it's a glorious, exuberant explosion of colour and pattern which brightened up a soggy day beautifully!
