We had less than an hour to spare, and needed to find a home to shoot in front for the line “put a deposit on a nice little flat”. I had written down- shoot Natalie in front of her dream house in Lockhart. Natalie couldn’t think of house…especially since she already lives in a gorgeous dream home and we’ve shot there plenty….And Natalie knows me so well that she said, “What about your dream house!” and so we put her in front of my dream home in Lockhart…funny they had an open house today and hearing about the plans to maybe turn it in to an Airbnb or bed and breakfast broke my heart….I hope nobody changes this beautiful home…it’s perfect and I hope it goes to the right hands…I’ll forever cherish it in my dreams On the brighter side- @tele_novella_tx goes on tour soon with @of_montreal …so stoked for them

The lyrics behind Marry Me by @tele_novella_tx inspired a loose poetic narrative about a woman trying to communicate her needs and is left unheard. She overcompensates by trying to be a better version of herself. Dreaming big dreams yet confined to this image of a traditional perfect housewife. The truth is that she is already enough- the marriage is between herself. We shot this one in less than six hours, telling ourselves that it would come together effortlessly. We deserved an easy one, after how much labor went into making our last series….And we are so so lucky to have such magical community and a beautiful town full of treasures. Living in this magical Lockhart town, all one has to do is turn the corner and it’s all there waiting to be captured. The results were a sweet memory for a beautiful song. One of my favorite shots ever- inspired by HOUsE - Beautiful performance by @shanacleveland in @laluzband !! Have you listened to their incredible new album yet!!! So grateful to have collaborated on the visuals for their masterpiece!!! Many many many thanks to our incredible art crew who made this beautiful set!! Our genius production designer @marzurbanart had this incredible idea to use all sorts of windows and took our concept into something beyond of what I could have dreamed of. This music video has shown me that the universe has a funny plan of it’s own. We shot this video last summer with a tiny crew and took the literal sticks in our yard to build a giant nest. We shot 600ft of 16mm - which is about a roll and a half in the big camera world. We used cardboard paper and a glue gun to create the ending. (Thanks to @victory.pig ) And a skateboard for a dolly. @natalieribbons had her helpers at work bejewel eggs. We accidentally cracked an egg we thought was hollow, which led to wanting to crush another egg on camera. We left the light on the scene instead of masking it out. We had just the right amount of hands to hold all of the eggs. The list goes on…. For every video I’ve ever made… it’s this one that has gone viral in true comedy spirit. I think that it’s the magic of the song that has got us this far. Listen to the lyrics and it spells out a poet’s journey earned with a pure heart! Creating with @tele_novella_tx has been one of the most magical gifts I could ever receive in this universe! Every project is a new exercise of creativity. With this one specifically- we went in with the purest intention that we wanted something simple, humble and timeless. You gave us so much room to play and so much of what came out of this one was in the moment. It’s so special to have collaborators like you, your hearts are so powerful. Caught reading some Rachel Cusk in front of the courthouse on a beautiful day in Lockhart by my new friend @yash.snap traveling all the way from the Uk. Yash said he enjoyed taking pictures of buildings, and places and things, but the photos were always much more interesting with people occupying the space versus capturing the building alone. And it just so happened that I was sitting there when Yash walked by. I love reading on the steps because despite it being in the middle of town, it’s quiet enough to enjoy the sounds of the town and the birds. It’s serene and the steps are usually empty. Thanks Yash for sending me the photo!

Just wanted to take today to show some more gratitude for the little things on “Megabus”. A moment I was reminded about today (stealing this story from the Frenchies) was when we needed to turn off the lights on time and instead of asking a third person to help (like Andrew) @mmmarinator rose to the occasion and said “I can do both lights!” And in the words of Scott… we hear the clickety clacking of her shoes as she goes from one light to the next to turn both off in just a matter of seconds. We surely squeezed the hell out of a lemon and thank goodness for the stellar crew on this one. I’m also so grateful for shooting on @kodak_shootfilm given our limitations, it’s a miracle and a gift to make it work out. Hard to want to shoot digital to be honest, when it can look this magical so effortlessly (well also with the help of our pal @arthurgaribay )! So here’s to more 16mm and hell I dare say it….. give me some 35mm 😝 we’ll never say no to it! When Mac came to me with his idea for Megabus, he wanted to create a 70s TV set performance like those of Bread, the Beatles, the Byrds….you know That Ed Sullivan show vibe. But the song felt much deeper than that. It’s a very honest song and I knew I had to match that honesty myself. Shot on 16mm for all you nostalgic film nerds.
