Reaching my decision to retire was quite a journey. There were so many emotions that I had to sit with and let them run their course. Even with all the amazing moments that happened in my career, it was difficult to be my most authentic self and cope with everything that came with being on that stage. That’s how I came to write this song. “Choose Wisely (Farewell)” encapsulates all of the feelings I’ve been reflecting on. I hope it inspires you to reflect as well. 🙏🏽
I sat down and discussed everything thats gone into my decision (which you can find on my Youtube channel), but I’ve decided to retire from the game of football. To God: what a journey, and thank you. We took it way farther than I ever could have imagined! So grateful for all the ppl I’ve been able to connect and create memories with along the way. I’m glad we’ve made progress to the point where diving deep on the topic of men’s mental health is no longer seen through a lense of ignorance or insecurity. There are too many men who suffer in silence and are exhausted from being beat down by narratives and beliefs that don’t align with who they really are (Me included in many seasons of my life!). Our traumas, fears, and negative self talk among many other things are battles we need to walk through standing shoulder to shoulder with our brothers. We are worthy of being seen and accepted as our most authentic selves regardless of how we may see ourselves and the shame we carry. I know for a fact that when our men get right, the world is a much safer and loving place. #mensmentalhealth

On February 3, I felt a strong conviction to do something different. I’d never written a song from the perspective of someone else until this. There’s something extremely valuable (and quite humbling lol) about putting yourself in the shoes of those you have been intimate with and taking an honest look at yourself.
