We don’t show enough appreciation for the people in our life. So i decided to make an appreciation post for one of my best friends in the world. What would I ever do without you? Haha!!! Friends since our early 20’s back in Edmonton days. We met so randomly too. I’ll skip that long story…. but I will tell you what we did on our first official friend date:) It was the summer time , we only met one other time in December . 7 months went by and we decided our first date would be a weekend away, at the legendary Edson Ball tournament. We rented a cabin in the woods . Let’s be honest, it was a shed with a bed. It was called “The Wolf cabin” and had a wolf picture in it, howling at the moon. For some reason, we picked up a huge amount of beer ( beer?!? who were we?) to pregame. Oh god i remember pre gaming before you’d go out. What a time to be alive. Anyways after drinking some BEERS… we got a cab to take us to the Edson Ball Tournament. ( Don’t laugh… Maxim magazine rated it one of the wildest parties on earth. Not even kidding) . When our cab arrived to pick us up, it was dark. He probably had a hard time finding the tiny cabin in the middle of nowhere. The cab driver then turned on the light , and showed us his hook. He had a hook for a hand. He told us to call him “Hook”. We kinda loved him. We then proceeded to outright lie, and told him we were on “The Amazing Race Canada” . …Why? I don’t have a proper answer for you. Anyways since then we’ve remained in each others lives, been in weddings, celebrated milestones , our guys even love each other AND one of us got her PHD ( you can figure that one out) and now we are family. This is my good friend @lesliebangamba and her angel of a daughter Amelie. I love this child so much. I love Leslie and her family so much. We met 4-5 years ago now, after making eye contact at a restaurant as Spice Girls we’re playing. We both knew every word , and instantly became friends. Leslie and her family went through absolute hell back in 2020, when Amelie ( just 18 months at the time) accidentally ingested a button battery, and quite literally almost lost her life. I remember the fear in her voice after she called me to tell me Amelie was in hospital. The amount of trauma they have overcome as a family is incredible. She now spends a huge portion of her life raising awareness about the dangers of button batteries. For one, I had zero clue that a button battery could quite literally kill someone, and fast. Amélie would suffer two cardiac arrests, be rushed into an emergency open heart surgery where medical staff would repair her ruptured esophagus, trachea, aorta, carotid left artery, in addition to receiving over four liters of blood transfused in the operating room alone. Thankfully God was on watch that day because Amelie survived, and just look at her. She’s magic. Check out Leslie’s website to find out more, and spread the awareness. Love you Guys!
After 18 months of working on our non profit @waitress_ceo and I ( plus 3 girlfriends @mcveighmanor@anndreacowan@chelsslambert ) launched The Yellow Butterfly Program. The event was at Bukz in sylvan and it couldn’t have been more special.
The community came out and supported us big time. Our program is for struggling youth all while utilizing restaurants. Did you know that suicide is the leading cause of death in teens here in Alberta , and depression is the biggest disabler?
If we can help just one youth , our job is done. Yesterday we also announced the release of our new childrens book, with proceeds going to our program . Bee and Tad from @thebneststudios worked so hard on this book and we’re so proud of it.
