Our employee spotlight turns to the newest recruit in our
#Manchester studio, Senior Landscape Architect, James Stephenson…
“I grew up in Derby and studied Industrial Design at
@universityofleeds . My career then took me to Australia, where I worked as an industrial designer. While exploring the bushlands and national parks around Sydney and beyond, I fell in love with nature. This newfound passion led me back to the UK to pursue a Masters in Landscape Architecture at
@themsarch .
Transitioning to landscape architecture has allowed me to combine my design expertise with my love for the natural world. One of my favourite projects I’ve worked on to date involved transforming a dual carriageway in Stretford,
#Manchester into a lush linear park with plants, trees, cycle lanes, and nature-based play equipment. Another memorable project near
#Wakefield was based around enhancing biodiversity through the creation of varied habitats including attenuation ponds, planting of meadows, woodlands, and footpaths surrounding large, commercial warehouses.
I’m excited to be part of the team; re-form’s approach starts with meaningful site visits to understand the history and DNA of a place, as well as develop a thorough understanding of each project’s context and future use. Currently, I’m working on several projects, including revamping public realm in association with new residential buildings next to Old Trafford football stadium in Manchester; designing residential landscapes and rooftop gardens on Greenwich Peninsula,
#London ; masterplanning a significant development for Manchester’s Northern Gateway and creating a smaller scale residential scheme centred around including the community in the landscape in
#Salford .
I find the detailed coordination needed to bring designs to life post-planning particularly fascinating. Being on-site during construction, solving challenges as they arise, is something I really enjoy. I’m excited to collaborate and share knowledge and expertise with our talented team here in
#Manchester and across our studios in
#Leeds and
#Edinburgh , and contribute to creating beautiful, functional environments for the public to enjoy”.
