This EP has a special place in my heart. In its final form, it consists of five unique cover versions of Bob Dylan’s One More Cup of Coffee. The release has its origins in the passing of my mother four years ago. The night that she passed, I purchased a microKORG-S, as a tool for art therapy as I navigated the early stages of grief. One night, I stumbled upon an arpeggiator riff that perfectly fit the melody and shape of “One More Cup of Coffee” - and I recorded a quick voice memo. Two years later, as I navigated a breakup, a studio version of the song was the first thing that I recorded in my new home studio here in Taos. When I reached out to my friend
@erikblood , who mixed Perfume Cigarettes, about fleshing out the production a bit further, he instead completely reimagined the track - turning it into a kind of song you might hear soundtracking a trailer for John Wick 5 (I mean that as a compliment to Erik). Hearing this version made me intrigued to see what other directions my vocal take could be stretched in. My friend, and collaborator on the first Ocean Music record,
@mr.e.s.woods , turned in an incredible house remix. And my friend, and collaborator from the short-lived
@blakeful big band, Ivan Anderson (aka
@cyberattack_world ) turned in a hyperpop version. To finish the EP, I asked
@katievonschleicher , my fellow back-up singer in the Fusilier big band, to mix my original demo version - and had the original Voice Memo from 2019 mastered along with the other four tracks.
