The brilliant Justin Caguiat. I first fell in love with his dreamlike work nearly three years ago at Frieze, then again last year at his solo exhibition ‘Dreampop’ in town. I was told he fled to New York during the COVID-19 pandemic and ended up in a former youth hostel in Berkeley, California. The building had been in the process of being renovated by an art collector and Caguiat traded one of his paintings in exchange for room and board. It was there, in one of the rooms, that Caguiat found a journal filled with poems, prose, and drawings that had been hidden between the bedframe and the wall. Being a published poet himself, he was completely struck by the book - its content would form the basis of his work over the next three years. The drawings used as sketches and overlapping composites, and the poetic excerpts formed the basis and titles of his paintings.
Whilst I would relish the opportunity to own a piece of his, unfortunately, not this year! A girl can dream though.
Out of mat leave hibernation we climb, and summer starting helps with the tiredness.
Motherhood, particularly new moms with two under two (Huxley and Rowe are just shy of a 16 month age gap) wow no one can prepare you for it… the whirlwind, the love, the chaos, magical chaos, the change, the constant challenge, the best part of you, the greatest job in the world although not to mention the hardest.
They say the first 6-12 months with two under two are tough but not sure ‘tough’ quite cuts it.
Currently riding the wave and so proud of my boys and where we are, the games are just getting started @gilesmaber
Buckle up 🩵
Getting into the swing of things:
as a mumma of 2 under 2 - so brilliant but oh so brutal, a few dinners out including date night (amazing how just that can make you feel like your full self again) and also, the best days with family 🤍
19.09.23 - exactly 3 months of our darling Rowe.
•Rowan James Gavin Maber, middle name taken after his Grandfather.
The last 12 weeks have been beyond testing and the hardest challenge yet, with 2 bubbas only 16 months apart but boy oh boy do we love you and thank the world you are here. To the final part of our family puzzle and the most smiley newborn there ever was - (still yet to capture 📷 that heart melting grin).
