No.30 OLD JACK’S BOAT: THE CHRISTMAS QUEST (2013). I saved the best till last. Not many things are perfect. This is! 2013 wasn’t a great year. My husband had brain cancer. He’d had 7 craniotomies, I’d stopped writing, I’d given up work to look after him… when Dominic MacDonald, who’d directed Breakfast Serials, asked me to write this. How could I say no?! And the studio was in Manchester, so I got to see my old mate Bernard. @freemaofficial makes a surprise appearance too; on a budget of tuppence, Dominic shot her against greenscreen in New York! The end result is lovely. This won a BAFTA. It’s repeated every year (don’t let me down, CBeebies!) (oh, edit: I’m told it’s on CBeebies, Dec 11 & 21, 5.30pm, hooray) and I always sit and watch it. It breaks the rules for Under-5s programming, it’s devastating! No one can break your heart like Bernard, our greatest of actors. Ah, good times. Thanks for following, merry Christmas! . . . 36 shows in 30 years in 35 days! Nov 1991 saw my first TV drama so I’ve scrolled through them all.
