Happy Juneteenth, friends! We recently had the great honor of welcoming renowned activist Dr. Opal Lee to New Mexico for the very first time. This event — hosted in partnership with our newest identity-based giving circle, the Empower! Black Futures Community Fund — brought a community of hundreds together to participate in active listening and learning from 97-year-old Opal Lee, whose perseverance was instrumental in making Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday and whose vision continues to inspire us all to create better futures. Today, we invite you to follow the link in our comments and stories to browse event photos and consider making a gift to the Empower! Fund in support of Black life, arts, and culture in New Mexico. p.s. Tune into our radio show Community Matters TONIGHT at 6:00 pm on KSFR 101.1 FM as we discuss the significance of Juneteenth with Dr. Opal Lee. #juneteenth #juneteenth2024 #opallee #freedom #equity #blackphilanthropy

“Once we moved to Santa Fe, we wanted to be more local and have the expertise of a local resource. When we learned about the Santa Fe Community Foundation and all that it offers, for us, it was the perfect way to carry out our philanthropic giving. SFCF gives us the reassurance that our funds are being put to the best use because of its close understanding of what is going on in the community. We love that SFCF introduces us to needs and nonprofits that we might not otherwise know about.” — Susan and Conrad De Jong, SFCF donor advised fundholders The personalized service we offer each donor advised fundholder is as unique as their philanthropic interests and perspectives. Thank you to everyone who joined the Envision Fund — New Mexico's first and largest philanthropic entity dedicated to LGBTQ+ causes — and @hrasantafe for a wonderful evening at the Governor's Mansion to kick off PRIDE Month in Santa Fe! It was a fantastic night spent with old and new friends, celebrating New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ community and the significant impact we’ve been able to make thanks to YOU, our generous donors, sponsors, and friends. We hope you’ll continue to stay involved in our work and invite you to be a part of the meaningful change we aspire to create in the coming years throughout New Mexico. #pridemonth #santafepride #envision #lgbtqia

What an unforgettable evening! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday to experience the wisdom and learn from the insights of the one-and-only "Grandmother of Juneteenth," 97-year-old activist Dr. Opal Lee. It was a true honor to co-host this memorable community event alongside our newest giving circle, the Empower! Black Futures Community Fund. Your presence made the night extraordinary! “There’s still too much homelessness and joblessness and health care that some of us can get and others can’t and climate change that we are responsible for,” Dr. Lee said as audience members voiced agreement. “It’s our responsibility to alleviate those things because we are the greatest country in the world, and others will follow,” she continued. “I’m going to take this opportunity to say, ‘Make yourself a committee of one.’” Link in comments and stories to read the full article by Daniel J. Thank you all who are joining us for this sold-out community event next Wednesday at the St. Francis Auditorium of the @newmexicoartmuseum to kickoff Juneteenth celebrations in Santa Fe and help introduce our Empower! “Why animals? People become powerful and whole when we allow our wounds to be seen…You watch people with their animals, or with any animal, and you just see this softening; where animals and humans connect is softness.” — Erica Hess, A Chance of a Lifetime. Carla Freeman's love for people and animals extended beyond her life. She bequeathed a generous legacy gift to the Santa Fe Community Foundation (SFCF), providing endowments for Animal Welfare and establishing it as a field of interest within the Foundation's community grants program. Her bequest continues to support local nonprofit organizations like A Chance of a Lifetime that focus on the care and well-being on animals, ensuring that Carla's compassion for and commitment to her community endure.
