Today I had the honor of attending the White House Safer States Legislative Convening with my colleagues @heathergustafsonmn and @senatorbonniewestlin . We were joined with fellow state legislators, advocates, public health experts, and others from across the country to discuss ways to prevent gun violence in America.
My favorite part of my job is meeting with constituents! I am always so impressed by the advocacy that so many of my constituents do to improve our community and state ❤️

The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed nations. As a physician, I have seen this firsthand. As a legislator, I’m committed to working on policy that lowers this rate. This year I have two bills that aim to do just that. They both have their final hearing in the Health and Human Services committee tomorrow. I look forward to discussing these important issues with my colleagues on the committee!
Yesterday, Sen. Morrison presented her bill in HHS that would streamline the prior authorization process. It would prohibit this process for care that can’t be delayed (such as cancer treatment) and would prohibit insurance companies from limiting coverage for treatments already approved. As a physician, I know firsthand that prior authorization is detrimental to physicians and patients, that is why I am a proud co-author on this bill!
