A part of my process that has become a nonnegotiable has been the transition from the mood board to the overall creative direction. Creative direction refers to the strategy, vision and execution of the overall project, whereas the mood board serves as a tool for visual inspiration, and it’s typically more of a general brain dump for both parties to collaborate.
First, I like to start with the general discovery call where I get to know you and your brand a little bit more. From there we begin to collaborate on Pinterest where I will source imagery and examples provided to organize into a mood board. Once the board is approved, I will begin sketching concepts based off our moodboard. From there, I’ll pick two concepts to present in a creative direction presentation.
In this presentation, I share sketches and behind-the-scenes logic for typography and color choices. Depending on the stage of the project, this can be super basic or extremely detailed, and it’s something that we will refer to often in our time together.
