So this is me and a glimpse into the very unglamorous life of a unit stills photographer. A typical position for me on set....squashed in a corner, next to the camera, wearing a blue mask! The only thing glamorous about this image is the wonderful company I get to keep....This Iphone snap was taken by the incredible cinematographer @RemiAdefarasin and next to me in the black mask is the talented camera operator Julia Green @greencameraltd . 📸 @susieallnuttphotography One of my earliest films that I worked on almost 20 years ago was #My Summer of Love. A beautiful #Pawel Pawlikowski film which starred a young, talented #emily blunt as Tamsin. Shooting this particular image really sticks in my memory... I had turned up for my first day on set in Yorkshire only to discover that filming was to be entirely shots on a low loader of the girls on a moped zooming through the countryside. Once you have the camera, operator, sound mixer, boom swinger, focus puller , 1st AD and cinematographer there isn’t a lot of room left for a stills photographer....My heart sank but I asked whether they could squeeze me in. The cinematographer Ryszard Lenczewski did a deal with me... If I could take meter readings on a hand held light meter to shout out to the focus puller during the shot, as we went from light to shade, he could make space for me. Back in those days we had to use sound blimps ( large unwieldy sound proofing boxes around our cameras ) and to hold and shoot this in one hand whilst taking light meter readings in the other was no mean feat. I was so chuffed that I made it all work and even happier that they were able to use this as a first look. I’ve included this photo, as sometime people assume that shooting stills must be an easy job. The actors all look great, the lightings beautiful...how hard can it be??? Well the answer is very...sometimes it all comes together and truly it is easy but this is a rarity rather than a norm. This image shows what my normal view usually is....camera operators, boom swingers, focus pullers, first AD’s all often need to occupy the same space... 📸@susieallnuttphotography Sometimes a day on set starts badly then turns itself around. I landed the 2nd unit action stills job on the 007 film #Casino Royale after my good friend and mentor @jaymaidmentphotography put me forward. I’ll be eternally grateful to Jay for suggesting me and Anne Bennett for taking the chance and hiring me. This shot was taken on set in the Bahamas the first day that the 2nd unit had with @007 himself #danielcraig . The day started badly, as for the first time since we arrived I’d left my cameras with the other camera equipment locked up overnight in a shipping container at set. When I got my cameras out and ready for our first day shooting with #danielcraig as #bond the lenses immediately fogged up with condensation. The temperature overnight had been much colder than I anticipated and the effect of the change in temperature & humidity was profund and induced a healthy amount of panic in me....My lenses cleared only after the first couple of rehearsals and only moments before the first take. Lesson learnt! I love this photo as there is a feeling of motion and energy that summed up Daniels first outing as @007 . It also marked the moment when I moved from shooting slide film on set to being fully digital. 📸@susieallnuttphotography Let’s talk about locations....One of my favourite things about shooting Unit Stills is the places I have got to visit... From beautiful houses in the French countryside, to the rooftops of Sienna, the marble quarries of Carrara, the beaches of the Bahamas and closer to home the Yorkshire Moors... What often makes it extra special is that you often get to witness the sun set and rise over some truly amazing scenery... Location work comes with it’s own set of challenges...long minibus rides, a massive hike to toilets, inclement weather, carrying gear miles, early starts and late finishes but it is always rewarding. This image was taken on the action unit of the #bond film Quantum of Solace, @danielcraig second outing as @007 . We had travelled from the beautiful town of Siena where we shot a roof top sequence, across Italy to shoot a car chase sequence at the stunning Carrara marble quarries. I completely loved the energy of the series creator and director @ghuwevans & cinematographer @mattflannerydp and this sequence was incredible. Who doesn’t ove a fight that involves a man in his pants, wellington boots and a meat cleaver. This action sequence was choregraphed to perfection by Gareth Evans and @reelpowerstunts and showcased the action abilities of the two fabulous actors @sopedirisu and @mrleeacharles . It’s again one of those moments where everything comes together and that decisive moment is caught on camera as a still image telling a story. IG takeover week 📸by@susieallnuttphotography The moment before a take as the clapper board goes on has it’s own magic. It feels like everyone is slightly holding their breath and waiting to see what unfolds. It is especially true when the scene is going to be improvised. This shot was taken before a take in which #jamiebell and #annettebening had a fully improvised dance scene to the song Boogie. It was shot all hand held in a room that was fully lit, so the camera could shoot in any direction. This can be a bit exciting for everyone in the room who doesn’t want to end up accidently featuring and ruining the shot. I always weigh up whether it is worth the risk and on this occasion concluded that it was worth dancing with the danger to get some beautiful stills. “ZeroZeroZero” 2019 📸Stefaniarosinistills_smpsp Directed by @tefanosollima , @janusmetz and @pablotrapero . Cinematographers @vittoriozorini , @paolo.carnera , @romain.lacourbas Shot in 5 States : Mexico, USA, Italy, Morocco and Senegal. Probably the most ambitious Italian Tv show ever made. I have chosen this photo among the millions I took in all of those months, because probably  this was my first big explosion scene. It happened all so fast that I don't even know how I captured it to be honest, the only thing I remember is the camera operator, focus puller, sound guy and myself completely covered in dust and desert sand after the explosion! Thankfully I had the plastic cover on my cameras. :0 I owe to ZeroZeroZero a lot. I got the chance to work in Cinecitta' Studios for the first time, and I still remember the emotion I felt walking next to the prestigious TEATRO 5, where Fellini directed many of his great movies. It was also the greatest workout for me, I lost 5 pounds, running with the crew up and down the Aspromonte mountains, in Calabria... In a week… I owe to ZeroZeroZero traveling almost 5 exhausting but magnificent months through the Morocco desert and the Senegal cost. But most of all, I owe to it the human experience, meeting incredible crews and actors, and the bond and friendship that I still have with most of them.
