Our next Cinco race is happening on July 17th and it is a trail run/mtb (xc) team relay hosted by @skiuphill_coast ! Last year was our first year giving this premise a go and it was a lot of fun! If you have a trail runner friend reach out to them soon to form your team! Full event details will be available next week. With many in the community headed out on vacation and at times challenging weather conditions in the mid-summer months we have a few non-event weeks to give our team and volunteers a bit of a break. Check out the events calendar on the website for upcoming event details. Our next Social Ride is Aug. 7th. This was a super fun event last year so we hope to see you there!

We'd like to thank @corsacycles for their continued support of SORCA and the trails in and around Squamish! Corsa is a long-standing Double Black Diamond sponsor. Every year they help facilitate fundraising raffles through the shop as well as help host weekly events, sell SORCA merch and host a dig day or two! They are also part of our trail CHAMP program (care, health adoption and maintenance) sponsoring Crouching Squirrel Hidden Monkey. Thank you again for your continued support!

@howesoundbrewing is hosting next week’s social après, so we’re doing a Valleycliffe ride! Join us for delicious drinks and food post-ride. Howe Sound Brewing is generously donating two flats of beer to a raffle for more donations towards your trails. Please note that there are bike racks out front of the venue, sufficient for 20 bikes if you want to lock up your bike. A huge thank you to Diamond Head Land Corp. and Lafarge for allowing this social ride to happen on their lands! Last weekend, SORCA partnered with @pridesquamish to host 'Pedal with Pride' – an introductory event for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The participants learned introductory bike skills at Brennan Park and the new SORCA MTB Skills Park and put these new skills into practice in a social ride. Big smiles and great vibes were in abundance. As one participant said, “Thanks for providing a space that I could progress at my own pace.” Big thanks to @dialedincycling for the bike rentals, coaching, and bike transportation and to @foxandoakcraft for the treats! We greatly appreciate the volunteers who coached, led the social ride, and helped with the logistics. You rock!

Nú! (‘Hello’ to close friends in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim - language) Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and June is National Indigenous History Month. This is a day for us all to celebrate and recognize the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw as well as First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples wherever you may live and ride. Every time you head out on the trails here in the town now known as Squamish, you're travelling in the territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish people). For thousands of years and still today, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People have lived, stewarded, harvested from, and travelled throughout this land - a land they have a strong spiritual connection to and an inherent right to govern. We want to share the Squamish Nation legend of Sínulhka (roughly pronounced as Ass-in-e-Kai). Sínulhka was a massive two-headed serpent that once roamed through the Squamish territory, its horrible shrieks frightening the people in the village of Stá7mes, Squamish. Xwechtáal, a young warrior, was tasked with killing the serpent. He pursued it up Siyám Smánit where it left a striking black streak (look at up the ‘Chief’ and you will see this). For four years, Xwechtáal pursued the serpent until he was able to slay it as it rested in a lake. From its body, he procured a special bone with which he was able to induce trances in other beings, an ability which granted Xwechtáal substantial power. He stopped at neighbouring villages, gaining many wives on his return to Stá7mes. (Stawamush) (Source linked in bio) Now is a good time to brush up on what you know about where you live, about the Squamish Nation and about reconciliation with Canada's First Peoples. Check out some of the local events happening in conjunction with Indigenous Peoples Day and other relevant resources linked in our bio. Ayais Chexw (‘Have a good one’ in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim)

It's going to be a busy weekend on the trails! On Saturday, June 22nd the mass start point-to-point @thehaulback race is taking place on portions of the network. Running from 10am until roughly 1pm there will be racers travelling through parts of the Alice Lake and Diamond Head riding areas, we foresee the biggest impacts to riders being their usage of the 'Mashiter from 'Ruperts' to Lower 'Cliffs Corners' (roughly around 10:30 am) and Ring Creek (bottom of Angry M to Garibaldi Park Road). To note none of these trails are closed* but we encourage riders to make alternate selections and avoid the race traffic. If you see their signage around the network please leave it where it is. On Sunday the 23rd @squamish50 has an orientation run happening and we believe the most notable crossover will be their uphill usage of 'Man Boobs' but this happening quite early in the morning. Please check out the respective events websites for full course details.

Road upgrades are about to commence on 'Northside Connector' in conjunction with the Checkeye debris barrier construction project. You will see construction crews, heavy equipment and additional truck traffic over the next 8 weeks on Garibaldi Park road, Ring Creek and Northside Connector in conjunction with this work. Please be cautious when riding trails in that area (especially those that cross the road) and please be respectful and safe around drivers, equipment operators and traffic control personnel. Additionally, please obey any temporary no parking signs
