I set my alarm for 4am on the hottest day of the year to finally explore Chapmans Pool by paddleboard, a trip I had been looking forward to for years. It was totally worth it! The coastline from Chapmans Pool to St Aldhelm’s Head by board was breathtaking and very dramatic viewing from the waters perspective.
One thing that really stood out was the impact of the massive landslide in November 2023 at Houns Tout. The path leading up to the summit is gone. The old route down the hill now just ends at the cliff edge, forcing a three-mile detour inland through Kingston. It was striking and sad to see the landscape so drastically altered.

Bournemouth Pier was originally constructed in 1856 as a simple wooden structure. Over the years, it has undergone several reconstructions and improvements.
One interesting fact is that during World War II, a section of the pier was deliberately removed to prevent it from being used as a landing spot by enemy forces in the event of an invasion. This defensive measure was common practice for many British seaside piers during the war.
