This photo, at the end of our opening night of “Willow Women” @buildingbridges_ax last Sunday, with the amazing women in our documentary…. Represents so so much!! It Comes at a year into this labor of love, of working to get this story seen and heard with five #FilmFestivals under our belts! This journey has been much more than I ever expected with gaining closer new friends, learning new life lessons, having amazing new adventures, to strengthening bonds with old friends, sharing new knowledge, but also finding new purpose! It’s been a journey With lots of twist and turns, but this photo was the goal and worth the process! #THANKYOU all who was able to make it out on #FathersDay to view our #film , immerse yourself in #art , and celebrate these #Kumiay #women and their #weaving skills and #culture ! While filming #WillowWomen , we ask @yanetsalazarcarrillo if she would ever be interested in being in a #gallery and she said yes, making this photo a surreal moment of our journey together! The Baskets / Sawiles on the wall are some of the #expert #pictorial weavings that they create through knowledge passed down since time immemorial! The exhibit and #shortdocumentary will be up until the end of June! So please stop by and check it out! outfit by @carlafernandezmx #jewlery by the #Kumiay #Kumeyaay #Basket #Sawil #Sawiles #BuildingBridgesArtExchange @bergamotsantamonica @marisacaichiolo @arielvargassal @thebroadhurstmethod @_fabneri #southernCalifornia #NativeAmerican #indigenous @salmayazmin

In the words of @liz_de_god … My dear friends (being me and my husband) had a vision to uplift the voices of the #Kumiay #Kumeyaay tribe A community that lives to honor and respect the Earth To take only what is needed Fight to protect it and honor it It was an honor and great blessing to be in the presence of the incredibly confident and strong women, whose hearts remain open with unconditional love despite the challenges and injustices they face. The exhibit is not only a display of their beautiful work but of the power of love. The love these women hold for their community empowers them to work hard to keep their traditions alive for future generations and share it with the world! Please check out our #shortdocumentary and #exhibit on view now @buildingbridges_ax through the end of June! #kumiay #kumeyaay #Native #nativeamerican #WillowWomen #BuildingBridgesArtexchange #Art #Nativebasket #Indigenousbasket #Sawil #Sawiles #Basketcollector #SouthernCaliforniaBasket
