Happy Birthday to Bill « Bojangles » Robinson & Happy National / International Tap Dance Day - May 25th, 2021 ! 🥳🥳🥳 I recorded the clip on the left in 2017 during my first year in Chicago. I did that for a collaborative video project, which was set up by @danileveille , also together with @mariabusquets (for the Tap Dance Day 2017 - you'll find it on Daniels YouTube channel). 🤗👍 Last year, during the first lockdown in Switzerland, I had the idea to revisit that piece and do a quarantine video with myself. So I relearned it and did the recording on the rooftop of our @dancestudioborak . I’m very proud to present to you one of my oldest students: Felix Hüsser!🤩 Felix is 75 years old. He took his first tap class in 2005 (after he turned 60!) at the tap dance school Marlies Wermelinger in Fehraltorf, Switzerland. In 2007 he also joined our school - @dancestudioborak - and took lessons from my mother Liba Borak, Ursina Meyer @ursinanisru and myself. Felix is an amazing student and an incredibly hard worker: At home he has a small room in the basement with a little tap floor where he’s practicing every day! 💯💪 Besides the regular group classes he’s also taking privates with me. Since 2013 I choreographed some solos for Felix and also taught him a few standards - for example “LAURA“ by Buster Brown (passed on by Barbara Duffy @dufftap ). The first plan was to perform “LAURA“ together in one of our next shows - but then Corona kicked in. So in August 2020 we decided to record a video. 😎 I finally edited it.😅 The most beautiful thing about Felix is his big heart. ❤️ He always offers his help at any of our events, loves to be at all our shows, whether on stage or in the audience - and he just loves tap dance! 😍 THANK YOU so much for everything dearest Felix! We love you very much and hope to have you with us for many more years! 🍀🙏❤️

I‘ve watched this already hundreds of times and it still brings tears to my eyes - especially at the end, when you feel the connection, friendship and love between those two icons. 🥲 Here we have the chance to witness some of the most beautiful aspects and elements of this art form - all united in this one clip: -Expressing yourself in the moment through rhythm and dance in an improvised way - using your own authentic voice and personality. -Communicating and connecting with the audience, the musicians and another tap dancer. -Showing love & respect to someone who inspired you - who came before you. -SHARING all you have with everybody in the room! In my opinion Gregory Hines embodied all of those qualities! Each word, each look, each sound, each move, each pause, each moment: so HONEST, so GENEROUS, so FOCUSED, so DEDICATED - all of this was coming straight out of his huge heart - pure LOVE. ❤️💯 Unfortunately I‘ve never had the chance to meet him personally, but I will always see him as a very important role model.
