Up and coming Hines Collective (@hinescollective ) had their work cut out for them, when the New York and Los Angeles-based interior design studio undertook the remarkable task of reconfiguring and refurbishing a 25-room duplex penthouse unit within a mere nine-month window. Nestled in the Laurentian Mountains atop Le Massif de Charlevoix, a resort area renowned for its dramatic natural vistas, Chalet Bertha commands stunning views. From its vantage point, you are treated to expansive scenes of dense forests, the majestic Saint Lawrence River and the charming town of Baie-Saint-Paul, celebrated for its vibrant arts-and-crafts scene. Named in homage to the alpine deity Perchta from Germanic mythology, also known as the “bright one,” this three-storey chalet is a standout in a private enclave of 46 identical homes. It belongs to a business couple, avid nature enthusiasts who see this retreat as their haven for ski weekends and extended getaways with loved ones. Inside the architectural shell by architect Luc Tremblay, multidisciplinary studio Perron Design (@perrondesign ) fashioned the interiors of this magnificent chalet to marry the cosiness of a home with the opulence of a five-star hotel, with a special focus on spaces for well-being in which family, friends and guests would feel as comfortably as they do at home. Dubbed “The Aviary”, this bold project holds nothing back in exploring how to integrate nature into a human dwelling. Chan Mun Inn, architect and co-founder of EDI Architects (Essential Design Integrated) (@essentialdesignintegrated ) explains that “bio-diversity” was the inspiration for the overall design theme: “Bio-diversity is the concept of sharing and living amongst different kinds in nature. Flora and fauna live in harmony and in support of one another in a balanced ecosystem”. In this case, the fauna includes human residents. This property is located along the fringe of Seremban’s Lake Gardens, which provides the perfect setting for such an environmentally focused design theme. Anonym (@anonym.studio ) is one of Bangkok’s most illustrious architecture firms, having created many unique homes that meld intuitive functionality with beauty and delight. A case in point is Baan Pridi 41, located on an 8,612 sq ft plot of land in a residential neighbourhood in Bangkok. The owner is an entrepreneur who lives here with his wife and two sons.  The C-shaped plan turns the house inward, with the largely porous internal facades facing a landscaped deck that functions like a courtyard. “Because of the neighbourhood’s density and its corner-plot location, the house is very much visible from all sides. We put a solid wall on the south façade because there is an eight-storey apartment next to it; the staircase, bathrooms and serviced areas are placed there,” says Phongphat Ueasangkhomset (phongphat_u), who co-founded Anonym with his wife and business partner Parnduangjai Roojnawate (@parnduangjai ). Organised by Tatler Homes Singapore and Singapore Institute of Architects’ Young Architects’ League (@sia_yal ), presented by Surface Project and Surface Stone, Architects on the Rise is an initiative of Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore that honours architects aged 40 and under with notable residential portfolios for their contributions to Singapore’s exceptional residential sector. Held at @hafary ’s gallery, the awarding soirées saw three architects being honoured. They are architects Christopher Chow, Nicholas Shane Oen Gomes and Zeeson Teoh Sau Wei. Trophies incorporating offcut natural stones from Hafary, reflective of Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024’s sustainablity-focused theme ‘Green by Design’, were given to awardees. Bacardi-Martini Singapore (@bacardi ) ambassador Maria Kim (@maria_kimmi ) indulged guests with an intimate cocktail workshop about the select cocktails of the night. @talkingtextiles founder Deborah Mckellar presented three beautiful shophouse artworks for winners and stunned with a unique silk screen printing demonstration. Guests also took home a beautiful skincare package by @simplewellness_sg . It was surely an event for the books, and aptly marks the journey ahead for uplifting the architectural profession in Singapore.
