Some of the coolest shit growing in my yard right now are volunteer plants, what you might call weeds. I didn't actually plant most of these - one might have been part of a wildflower packet that I tossed out three years ago. I never got any blooms from it until now. One that is absolutely thriving is the pumpkin patch, which began when I stuck the old Halloween 🎃 there last year and just never moved it. I've never had this much luck with pumpkins I have attempted to plant so we'll see.
The purple one by the birdbath came up a few weeks ago and I thought at first it was butterfly weed but it grew into this instead so I keep letting it grow to see what it will become. So far, it attracts more butterflies than the actual butterfly weed beside it. It also attracted that little green guy that my app can't identify.
Anyway, here's my weeds of the week along with a giant elephant ear I didn't plant and a sunflower that I actually did.

This little dude was a chrysalis yesterday. One wing is smaller than the other, maybe still unfurling and drying out from the transformation. Hopefully, it's fluttering away by tomorrow. For now, we've named it Nemo. ❤️
The camellias are in full bloom in my backyard. Each blossom whispers in a different voice, reminding me to slow down, appreciate this very moment as it flutters past. And this one too. I am grateful to be their caretaker and wonder where their original gardener has gone. Did they have the chance to lie under the blooms and breathe them in? Have they planted a new garden?
