I set a goal and am tearing into it. I’m getting this book out to query in June. I’ve been writing her for a long time (since 2015), and she’s been writing me—cheesy but true, like my earnest ‘lil heart.
I still have some edits (and I’m sure I’ll have more). I sent the manuscript out today for a good weekend eyeballing. I’m wrangling the proposal, and it’s kind of adorable.
All the signs, symbols, and coins from Mom are there. I keep getting uncanny/apt messages about weirdness and voice, and all the synchronicity pushes me forward.
Coming up with the right subtitle feels like trying to crystallize the secret to life and make it funny, short, and flow (no bigs). Then I look at all my favorite books’ subtitles and realize I don’t even know what most of them are. So we’ll get there.
Brent said I’m a bit like Max Fischer, and my book is like Rushmore (Max does not want to leave his beloved school). In a sweet way. And I said (quoting same), but I’ve been out to sea for a long time.
Really, I’ve been out to sea just long enough.
