October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month and somebody that I care about needs a cure. Please if you can, donate to this very worthy cause. Link is in my profile Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops, causing a progressive loss of motor skills and speech. Rett syndrome is caused by a mutation on the x chromosome called MECP2 and affects mostly girls - their ability to walk, speak, eat and even breathe easily. They are so close to treatments of symptoms and even finding a cure but as this syndrome is so rare it relies on donations to fund the trials. The Rett community has raised over $33million with a roadmap to a cure since 2017. Science is changing quickly, there are now many scientists & researchers who all have different strategies in action! 1966- Rett syndrome discovered 1999- found the mutation in the MECP2 gene 2007- Rett syndrome was REVERSED in a mouse model Fast forward to now! We’re on phase 3 of a trial, hopeful for a promising treatment. As well gene therapy on the horizon!
