this one was special, thank you all so much for love 🤎
this shoot was a full circle moment in more ways than one, so buckle up because this is a long one.
first - i was a
@sephora girl. I’d just moved to new york at 18, needed a job, and knew that I loved makeup. I stayed there for 3 years until I was able to pursue modeling full-time. so the other day when I went on sephora.com and was able to see my face…it was a lot of feelings.
second - I’m a self-represented model. I don’t talk about this often, but it’s made my modeling journey different than most. nonetheless, I’m incredibly proud to have received an opportunity of this level on my own.
on that note, thirdly, my career has always been because of the people I’ve met. 5 years ago on one of my very first jobs (i had no clue what I was doing) as a face model, I met
@lijhajade . I was one of many on her set that day, but I’ve followed her and been inspired ever since. years later, I was shocked to receive an email for this shoot, hear that she remembered me, and wanted me to be a part of this. I’m so grateful she did.
fourth - I have textured skin, and acne is a journey. I didn’t think a beauty shoot was in my future anytime soon. and while it actually helped with the purpose of this product (yummy skin blurring power is magic!!) the state of my skin not being “perfect” never fails to stress me out on set. but as I sat there in hair and makeup, silently wondering if my hair part should be on the other side to help cover said texture, I hear
@danessa_myricks say, we love her skin. I don’t know that models talk enough about what it means to feel safe on set, but it is often a luxury. It can be a lot of things, but for me it often starts in the hair and makeup chair.
the girl on the last slide would be so proud, but not surprised. grateful. 🫶🏼
