Our visitors love walking up our old stairs here. It is both exciting and makes a person quite nervous when unseen footsteps are heard walking these same stairs. It becomes very apparent when smaller size groups are staying here overnight and they hear it.
These old stairs are the overall building stairs now, but the original house stairs (that old house structure sits inside this old building now), used to start up from our kitchen, go up the wall of our presentation room (behind our screen), and go up through the ceiling into the upstairs room that we call Preston’s Parlor. That little (what seems like a comfortable room) has had a lot occur to people trying to sleep there.
That room was actually talked about and featured on Travel Channel/Discovery tv network @travelchannel on the popular show Fright Club with Jack Osbourne and the Ghost Brothers (Juwan, Dalen, and Marcus). There have been a lot of personal experiences in this particular room to people….including Juwan who later came and slept in there. Ask him this September 7th when the Ghost Brothers come back!
There once was a lot of Texas power, influence, and money on Galveston island. It actually is where Ballinger, Texas began in its foundations…from the railroad attorneys and judges bringing the railroad. They (the railroad) decided to create this Texas town. As Ballinger turns 138 tomorrow, I reflect back on all this history uncovered from the Gulf, Colorado, and Sante Fe Railroad company days and the foundations of Ballinger and Galveston. Long ago, the Circa 1886 Olde Park Hotel building began as a simple railroad cowboy bunkhouse in the very early days of Ballinger. Happy Birthday tomorrow Ballinger!

We have again had groups asking on the process where a team/group can get to explore BOTH the Circa 1886 Olde Park Hotel building and the 1925 Old Runnels Jail building.
The process is simple:
1) First, a group/team needs to set an available date by prepaying and reserving a date (most months just weekends). This is only $350 for your whole group overnight.
2) Second, after reserving the overnight date for Olde Park, then the team/group only has to let us know officially way ahead of your booking date that your group wants to reserve the old jail. We would confirm and set that with county officials. Your group gets to explore the old jail from 7 pm till 1 am. Your group pays a $250 donation that same day to county officials when they come to open the jail.
