One of the busiest times at the shelter is during July 4th. When the fireworks go off many dogs get scared and will escape. That’s why there’s such a huge influx of dogs that arrive at the shelter. To help make temporary kennel space @lbanimalcare is asking the public to help foster dogs for a minimum of 30 days. Foster the 4th is a great way to both help a dog get out of their kennel and to make space for the new dogs. Sleeps a lot but looks much more at peace. In the next few weeks I hope to really help her become more confident! ‼️PLEASE HELP ‼️ Even though some dogs were saved by a few rescues today, please do remember that the Downey Animal Care Center will have no problems euthanizing a handful of dogs this week to “make room for the Fourth of July”. Welcome to America. While we celebrate our freedom, animals are killed at the shelter to make space for all the poor souls that run away from their homes while fireworks explode in the sky. Each dog in this video is incredibly sweet. We spent time with all of them yesterday and they sat patiently for treats, gave us kisses, and even let us pet them through the metal bars. It’s devastating to think about any of them ending up dead in a dumpster but that’s the heartwrenching fate they will be subjected to if no one saves them. By sharing them, tagging your friends, offering to foster, offering to transport, pledging, etc., you are giving these dogs more of a chance to be saved before it’s too late. Mickey is such a sweet boy! He’s very friendly with both people and dogs. Mickey needs all the exposure he can get. With all of our kennels full, the special needs dogs often get overlooked. He may be a tripod but it doesn’t slow him down from doing all the things any dog loves to do. He enjoys sniffing grass, going on walks, getting petted, and being with k9 friends. This is Kai’s final plea. He will need to be adopted or pulled by a rescue by EOD Friday 6/15/24. Kai was abandoned at a truck station where he was clearly suffering. His eyes had open wounds to both eyes and it’s clear he went untreated for a long time. After lab work it was determined he has an autoimmune condition called pemphigus foliaceus. Kai has been getting treatments at the shelter and it has improved drastically. With an influx of abandoned dogs (over 50 just in the month of June) the shelter is critically overcapacity and dogs with lower adoption potential finds themselves running out of time. To stop all of the killing due to this overcrowding? To end the suffering as dogs sit in jail, sad, scared and confused? I’m sorry, WHO the F is still buying a dog from a breeder? Please WAKE UP everyone. There’s NOTHING wrong with shelter dogs. They’re amazing, trust me I’ve met and loved a few hundred of them over the past year. And yet millions are sitting and waiting and millions will be killed because people still go and buy puppies. And half of those people end up abandoning them.
