Plus Size Model Crowned Miss Alabama at The National American Miss Pageant.
23 year old plus size model Sara Milliken achieved a dream eight years in the making on Monday night after claiming the Miss Alabama crown in the National American Miss pageant.
According to NAM, The NAM pageant is a program based on the foundational principle of fostering positive self image by enhancing natural beauty within.

Milliken, who said her goal was to just make the top 10, has inspirational words for young women after her win.
"No matter what your body looks like, no matter where you come from, you can do anything you set your mind to," Milliken said.
"Just making it to top 10 was my goal, ya know, I could leave the weekend saying I was better than I was the year before, and it’s all about bettering yourself for me."
Milliken will now move on to nationals to compete on Thanksgiving week.

Proud would be an understatement. Of myself. Of these girls. And of the amazing growth we shared last weekend. I could not have asked for a better first experience at NAM!
I think one thing people don’t understand about pageantry is that you don’t have to leave with a crown to be a winner. I set goals for myself both on stage and off, and am proud of myself for accomplishing those goals. I received 1st runner up for Miss Alabama, won Fitness, 1st runner up in Casual Wear, won Academic Achievment, and won People’s Choice!
Thank you to all my family and friends who supported me on this new journey! Thank you to all the amazing women I met at NAM for making an unforgettable weekend. And thank you to @teampuresk for making me feel beautiful and confident!

Something about me is that I have a posting schedule, I have certain times that I post certain things, I feel as though this is the best way to get my message and story across the widest audience in preparation for my upcoming international competitions!
However I felt it was important for me to post about @saraamilliken who was just recently crowned @thenamalmiss , I want this to show as a reminder that plus size women have a place in pageantry and we can be successful titleholders!
It doesn’t matter what your body looks like, your skin color, or who you love, you are equally worthy to be a titleholder if that’s what you have your heart set on!
Choose your dream, and chase it. Don’t give up until you reach it!
