So happy I got to see the play All of Me by @thenewgroupnyc as a late birthday gift! It was a fantastic performance!
I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the whole show for 2 reasons:
1) because it was hilarious! The theater kept erupting with laughter.
2) because this was the first live performance I’ve ever seen that had TRUE authentic disability representation!! Lucy (@maddd.hatter ) and Alfonso’s (@dannyjgomezofficial ) love story goes through typical ups and downs of any relationship, but also includes the ups and downs for a disabled couple (both between them and from others). Something else I’ve never seen in any performance or film is that two of the main characters (Lucy and Alfonso) both used AAC devices. The whole cast did an incredible job of portraying the realities of disability (both from an individual’s own experience and how their families feel about it).
I was beyond thrilled to be able to see this show. All I could think during the car ride home was how grateful I was (and still am) to feel seen, understood, and represented. This is why I want to continue growing Cooking on Wheels and create my TV show. I want other disabled people to be able to experience this amazing feeling. Thank you @thenewgroupnyc for giving me this experience. Congratulations on a phenomenal performancn@maddd.hatter can’t wait to cook with you one day! (You sang At Last by Etta James so beautifully)
