(Cont. from last post) Grace for myself, I find, is one of the hardest parts of performing. It's hard to put something on stage that doesn't blow everyone's mind when the Internet is constantly showing me how INCREDIBLY TALENTED everyone else is. But without giving that to myself, I won't grow as an artist. You gotta be mid sometimes, or you aren't pushing your own boundaries.
David Bowie has a great quote about this; "If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting."
I was definitely a little out of my depth here, but it was good to swim in unfamiliar waters. Cheers to the deep end, my loves ❤️

Can I tell you a secret? 🤫
I don't get nervous before performing much these days. A couple decades onstage will do that, but I was SO nervous for this show. The group act was so no biggie; I have been in the chorus of a lot of musicals, but singing on my own is something I haven't done in a long time. (Other than karaoke, which doesn't count since it doesn't matter if that's terrible...)
The first time I watched the video of this show, I hated my performance. All I saw was my nerves, how pitchy I sounded and the choreo I missed. I've spent a lot of years learning to look at my performance videos with a constructively critical eye, and adding in singing wrecked that.
So I did what I always do when a performance felt terrible to me and/or the video felt like a total failure: I waited then tried again. The second viewing was better, and I was able to look at the act more dispassionately. For a first go, this was a solid performance. Not perfect, with definite room for improvement, but not a failure (CONT on next post)
