So I quit taking orders for these Tongo Da’ Beachcomber mugs more than a few years back.. BUT when somebody asked you to make one holding a Ren Clark “Severed Head” mug how can you pass that up!! 🤷🏽♂️😂🩸This was a fun one, finished it off with cold paint on the blood like they did back in the day with the OG and glazed the rest including the bottom logo. Maybe this was the “last” Beachcomber after making hundreds of different ones with the same damn single mold since 2012. So I thought I got the last of the bisque mugs finished before unplugging the kiln and packing up the glazes before our move but looks like they’ll have to go in mo time… Had this idea rolling around in my noggin for years. Wanted them to have an aged vintage look and feel but think’n they need some satin glaze on top to pull them together.. I think “LoLo” is even more excited for the move than I am!!😂 This braddah has been guarding the Manini Bar here on our lanai for many years.. If you came here to Maui in the 90’s & 2000’s you may have seen him standing guard on a big round mound at the old Shell gas station on Dairy Road close to the airport in town…. When my kids were young we’d drive by him there at the gas station and they’d yell out at him “Hey Lolo!”.. Lolo in Hawaiian means crazy..😂 and yeah he use to be another foot taller but like all of us we start to shrink as we get old..❤️ Before LoLo was given to me by the owner of that gas station years ago I had designed my very first Tiki mug off based off of him.. Some of you might have one, I think I made about 20 or 30 of them.. I built The Manini Bar on my lanai to mainly clear up the cupboard space in the kitchen from all the bottles of RuM.. That was back in 2013 and it became so much than just a stash spot.. so many great memories, so many great stories, so many bottles of RUM!!😂 Wish I had more pictures of everyone that visited it and had a cocktail over the last decade.. Today I had to tear it all down.. New chapter begins soon here on Maui, maybe even a new Manini Bar??!! Cheers🍹🤙🏼
