Kayla-Rae is a Calgary-based commercial model who has been working in the industry for over a decade. Her work has taken her from Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, and New York City, where she has worked with clients such as Sport Check, Under Armour, Porsche, 2C Media, and more! With a love for the industry and helping models find their first steps into this industry, Kayla-Rae recently launched Wild Model Management in Calgary. She and her team pride themselves in developing models so that they can learn the industry, develop their portfolios and have a safe home base. Her models have signed with top modelling agencies both locally and internationally. Her goal is to help every model achieve their dreams of becoming a professional model by providing them with the tools they need to succeed including classes on runway walking, bookings, professionalism, comp cards, and social media training. Let’s welcome @avaahblackwell to the academy! Avaah Blackwell is a multilingual actress and versatile stunt performer. Classically trained in Europe, Blackwell began her career as a performer after graduating Prague Film School's "Acting for Film" program at the top of her class. One of ten actors globally selected for PFS's innovative program, Avaah is equally captivating performing for stage and screen. Blackwell is the co-founder of a series of industry related events entitled "Behind the Camera" at Soho House Toronto. Avaah utilizes her international training & experience to infuse her work with unique physical, emotional, and mental discipline. Versatile in her character choices, Blackwell is known best for playing strong female leads, as well as interesting supporting characters. Blackwell's performances are described as "magnetic, electric and enchanting" by producers and audiences across Europe ( Cannes Film Festival, The Bear Theatre Company), Asia (Pi Fan) and North America (TIFF, Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, New York City International Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, Golden Panda, Studio 35 Festival, et al.). Blackwell's exceptional comedic performance in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival earned her recognition from CBC. Blackwell's love for improvisation and comedy allows her amiable personality to shine both on and off camera. When not working on screen, Avaah can be found supporting her love for film by working for TIFF and Sundance Film Festival. Let’s welcome @shaynixx.dnc to the academy! Shay will be focusing on posture with the models. Check out her bio 😊 Shay Nicole is a Toronto-Born dance artist and 2019 graduate with a BFA in Dance Choreography from York University. She has over 15 years of dance training in forms including Jazz, Ballet, Musical Theatre, Modern, Contemporary, and Improvisation and Conditioning. Shay has had the privilege to learn from established names such as Hanna Kiel, David Norsworthy, Tracey Norman, and Julia Sasso. After training at York University, Shay’s performance experience expanded into the Toronto dance community, where she performed in 2016 with Echo Dance Company’s show Breaking Formality, New Blue Festival ‘17, Your Dance Fest ’18 and has participated in four seasons with York Dance’s Dance Innovations. Shay teaches Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical and Improvisation at various dance studios and educational institutions in the GTA. Interested in Creative process, Phrase work, Improvisation, and Composition, she is passionate about teaching, training, and developing her repertoire and choreographic portfolio. She has taken workshops with Toes for Dance, Human Body Expression, Allan Kaeja and Belinda McGuire to name a few. Shay plans to further develop her knowledge as a dance educator and continue training, teaching and sharing her passion for dance.
