I am so grateful to @chocolatebartt@mountainpridechocolates for collaborating with me to do this shoot. Hailing from La Canoa, Santa Cruz, cocoa is a big part of my family’s history and culture. My great-grandfather worked on the Stollmeyer Cocoa Estate (now called the La Pastora Cocoa Estate) in the 18th century. Back when Cocoa was King, Trinidad produced 20% of the world’s cocoa and by the 1830s, Trinidad produced 1/3 of the world’s cocoa. Cocoa production saw a decline in the mid 1990s due to various reasons including disease, natural disasters, economics etc.
Today, thanks to the hardworking people such as @mountainpridechocolates and @chocolatebartt the culture of cocoa cultivation and production is staying alive in our country and it’s being revolutionized through innovative technologies. I have to thank the owners at @chocolatebartt for giving the creative team behind this photoshoot an exclusive tour of their cocoa production (more of this coming soon).
