The Biden administration has recently issued a statement arguing that gender-affirming surgical care should necessarily exclude minors. A White House spokesperson said: “These are deeply personal decisions and we believe these surgeries should be limited to adults. We continue to support gender-affirming care for minors like mental health care and respect the role of parents, families, and doctors in these decisions.” By limiting minors' access to gender-affirming care to only mental health and implying that youth are not capable of being in conversation with their families and physicians about what they need, the Biden administration is undermining the autonomy, needs, and experiences of trans youth and their families, and backtracking on its commitments to support the well-being of trans youth. This statement also ignores the overwhelming scientific consensus on the importance of ALL forms of gender-affirming care for trans youth. The statement’s implications are far-reaching and concerning, and could lead to further bans and limitations to lifesaving care not only for trans youth, but for all trans people. Learn what you can do in the comments. #ProtectTransKids #ProtectTransYouth #GenderAffirmingCare

🎉✨ Today, we celebrate Sylvia Rivera’s birthday! 🌟 Sylvia was more than an icon and a legend; she embodied radical activism and peer support. Her life’s mission was to fight against the exclusion of trans individuals, particularly trans people of color, from the broader gay rights movement. With unyielding courage, Sylvia used her voice to speak truth to power and fought for all of our rights in a time where being trans was illegal. Her pivotal role in the Stonewall Riots alongside Marsha P. Johnson, the founding of S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), and her unwavering efforts to support her incarcerated siblings showcase her profound dedication. Sylvia’s deep care for others, especially those most marginalized, remains unparalleled and deeply inspiring. Throughout her life, she motivated many and continues to inspire us through her enduring legacy. While we know Sylvia often experienced discrimination and harassment inside and outside her own community when it came to respectability politics, her radical authenticity and desire to fight for the liberation of *all* people despite how she was sometimes treated remained steadfast. It’s community activism like hers that has inspired organizations like ours to provide a peer support framework, directly supporting our community. As we celebrate her special day, let’s reflect on her contributions and the positive change she brought to so many lives. Sylvia’s dedication and compassion remind us of the power of community and the difference one person can make. Her story is a testament to the strength and resilience that define our movement. On her birthday, we honor her legacy by continuing to fight for inclusion, justice, and peer support for all. 🌈❤️ [Image description: A vibrant purple and pink background with a black and white photo of Sylvia Rivera sitting on a pier. The text reads: Happy Birthday, Sylvia Rivera.]

We are deeply disturbed and heartbroken by the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza and the suffering of the Palestinian people who live there. As a trans-centered organization, our hearts especially ache for the queer and trans people of Gaza. The state of Israel is openly engaging in illegal settler colonialism, human rights violations, and war crimes—these actions are unconscionable and inhumane. Yet, our government refuses to hold Israel accountable for its violence. Compounding the horror of this moment, Islamophobia and antisemitism are spreading across our country in reaction to the war on Gaza. Trans Lifeline firmly condemns war, genocide, and colonialism. As such, we stand with the people of Palestine in calling for a cease-fire and support the vision for a free Palestine. If you find yourself struggling to come to terms with this stance or want to understand the history and context that inform it, please check out these Palestinian and Jewish organizations whose leadership we follow in this conversation: Within Our Lifetime @wol_palest1ne Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network @samidoun.palestine American Muslims for Palestine @ampalestine Palestinian Youth Movement @palestinianyouthmovement Mpower Change @mpowerchange Muslim American Society @muslimamericansociety Jewish Voice for Peace @jewishvoiceforpeace IfNotNow @ifnotnoworg Black Women Radicals @blackwomenradicals Palestine Reading List: https://bit.ly/BWR-Palestine #NoPrideInApartheid #FreePalestine [Images description: The first image shows a Palestinian flag with the text "No Pride in Apartheid" written over the flag in a distressed, bold font. As Pride Month comes to a close, let's continue to carry its spirit of celebration, resilience, and unity with us every day. We've uplifted each other, celebrated our victories, and stood together in solidarity. While it can seem redundant, it’s more important than ever to remember that Pride doesn't end in July—it's an ethos we carry in our hearts, minds, and bodies. Let's continue to uplift and empower one another, creating a world where every trans person can live authentically and proudly. Happy Pride, today and always! #Pride2024 #HereToStay #TransPower #T4T [Image description: The image is a poster for Trans Lifeline’s Pride 2024 campaign. Celebrating Juneteenth with Pride and Power! Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks the liberation of Black Americans from slavery in 1865. As we reflect on freedom and resilience, we also celebrate the vibrant history and contributions of Black trans pioneers who have paved the way for our community. From Marsha P. Johnson and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, who were instrumental in the Stonewall Riots, to today’s trailblazers fighting for justice and equality, Black trans individuals have always been at the forefront of change. Your courage, strength, and unwavering spirit inspire us every day. Trans people unite to build power through mutual aid, storytelling, advocacy, voting, and community care. Together, we reclaim power over our lives, bodies, identities, and narratives—asserting our rights and dignity in a world that tries to take them away. Whether by quietly learning to love ourselves, coming out publicly, amplifying each other’s voices, or joining organizing campaigns, all of these efforts drive systemic change toward a more inclusive world. Trans existence is resistance. #Pride2024 #HereToStay #T4T [Image description: The image is a poster for Trans Lifeline’s Pride 2024 campaign. The Stonewall Riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the TLGBQ+ community against a violent police raid that took place in the early hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Trans women Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were influential figures in the early gay liberation movement, co-founding organizations like the Gay Liberation Front and Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR). They also played active roles in the events at the Stonewall Inn in June 1969. Their involvement in the riots and fierce activism were instrumental in shaping the early TLGBQ+ rights movement, including advancements in visibility, legal protections, and societal acceptance. However, despite the strides made in the 55 years since the Stonewall Uprising, trans people still face significant challenges, including discrimination, violence, and a lack of access to healthcare and resources. Let’s honor the legacy of trans activists like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and many others by continuing to fight for a world where trans people have the connection, economic security, and care everyone needs and deserves – free of prisons and police.
