OFFICIAL STATEMENT #2 - AREA OF LOW PRESSURE (AL96) IN THE CENTRAL TROPICAL ATLANTIC: Date: Monday 1st July, 2024 Issuance Time: 8:30pm The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service continues to monitor an area of low pressure, AL96 (Figure 1) near the central Tropical Atlantic and east of the Southern Windward Islands. At 8:00 pm today, the low was located near 40W longitude (near 2370 km) east-southeast of the Windward islands, moving westward at 25-30 km/h. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms have diminished somewhat in association with the area of low pressure. Environmental conditions only appear marginally conducive for further development however, a Tropical Depression could still form during the next few days. At 8:00 pm today (1st July 2024), the National Hurricane Center has given the system a 20% chance of developing into a Tropical Depression over 48 hours and 40% over the next 7 days. At this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago although moderate/heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms and accompanying gusty winds are in the initial outlook for mid-week. The TTMS continues to monitor this area of low pressure and will issue an update at 8:00 am tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd July, 2024) or earlier if the situation warrants. Please visit www.metoffice.gov.tt for more details. As always, pay close attention to information being issued by the TTMS by visiting www.metoffice.gov.tt, downloading the mobile app (search: TT Met Office) and following on X, Facebook and Instagram.
