At Turner.Works we’ve been running internal Design and Making workshops with the studio. These aim to critically review our own projects against meaningful design lenses such as EDI, Social Value, Sustainability and Making against our key practice research themes. Our recent workshop was focused on social value and engagement, particularly with hard-to-reach stakeholder groups reviewing how we can improve this on our current schemes.    We’re excited to dive into @thorntoneducationtrust ’s new engagement toolkit, which they launched last night at Hackney Bridge. Our colleague Tringa Kelmendi (@treeng ) also shared insights on the discussion panel, talking about engaging children and young people, sparking great discussions on improving our community outreach.   Looking forward to enhancing our future projects with these new strategies! 🙌 #communityengagement #architecture

We are delighted to share that we are working with world leading Imperial to create a new social hub for their groundbreaking DeepTech Campus at White City. We’re happy to share that Hackney Bridge has been shortlisted in the Building category at this year’s Pineapple Awards!   Located within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Bridge is a community hub that provides affordable studio and incubator space for creative SMEs and local start-ups.         We undertook close community engagement to develop a strong understanding of local makers’ and artists’ needs, alongside the needs of existing and incoming residential communities. Using these insights, we designed and delivered a cluster of five new buildings that provide a variety of spaces. We have taken a new and innovative approach to designing for “meanwhile” at Hackney Bridge, making it a permanent structure designed for disassembly and relocation after 12 years.   With our London studio based in Hackney Bridge, we can see first-hand the contribution the scheme makes to the community every day. ‪Last month, we celebrated Black History Month with our film club lunch series, featuring the films: Nubia Way: ‬a story of black-led self building in Lewisham‪, Paris is Burning, Dark Matter: A History of the Afrofuture, and Bringing the Biennale B(l)ack. ‬ We also enjoyed Caribbean and African food from local restaurants, Leilani’s Little Sister, LAZA and Caribbean Kitchen. ‪Our carefully curated choices aimed to share, celebrate, and shed light on the often overlooked impact of Black Heritage and Culture. The film club is an important platform for recognising contributions, promoting awareness, and fostering essential conversations about race. Last week, our office embarked on an inspiring journey to Liverpool. We had the privilege of visiting our longest-serving team member, @simoncadle who recently established his home in this vibrant city, marking the beginning of Turner.Works Studio North. It’s truly heartwarming to have Simon lead us in this exciting venture, and we were eager to explore Liverpool with him. Our adventure took us to extraordinary places, including the Granby Winter Garden and Granby Workshop by @assembleofficial , where we were warmly given a guided tour. We also had the honour of admiring the @haworthtompkins Stirling Prize-winning Everyman Theatre, @carusostjohn ‘s Liverpool Philharmonic, @hsapics ‘s Toxteth TV, and @archemporium ‘s Pen Factory. This trip was an abundant source of inspiration, reaffirming why Simon chose this magnificent city.
