We’ve been having some fun (and getting creative🎨) with Olympic Themed Warm-up games this summer! This week’s theme was diving, so we had the girls run and dive onto cheese mats, trying to push them down the floor the quickest! On the way back they had to do a mat push! We’ve been working lots of snap down drills during tumbling so we can generate enough power to upgrade our shapes in back tumbling! Here some of our Xcel golds are starting very beginning drills for back layout shapes. Let’s talk fun dance!💃🏼🪩✨ Understanding dance and choreography is so important for competitive gymnastics! Showmanship and being able to wow the judges with dance on floor is essential to big floor scores, plus it’s fun. Taking a rotation away from gymnastics once a week to work on dance and let the girls have fun is super helpful! Back Twisting on Floor ‼️ Figuring out the last 1/2 of a twist can be confusing, because depending on how much you’re twisting, your shapes might be different. With this drill we can target the open landing of a 1 1/2 and the hollow landing of a double full so our athletes really feel their last 1/2 and landing position. Want to try this drill in your gym? Working long, aggressive hurdles and setting in front tucks! Getting a front tuck isn’t super challenging, but learning to punch and set high enough to land it can be.
