The Sports Management Program at UMD is excited to officially announce our Sports Management Alumni Advisory Board consisting of fourteen University of Maryland alumni representing various fields of study, graduation classes, and professional experience! This star-studded group includes champions, executives, and industry leaders who will help guide and shape the growth of the Sports Management Program at UMD and provide strategic guidance, expand networks and partnerships, and offer mentorship and leadership to students.
Congrats to Cohort 1 for completing their semester long capstone projects! Last Thursday, the four teams presented their final projects and displayed their posters at the first annual SMP Symposium! Thanks to all the capstone partners and project champions who supported our program!
Nucleus’ very own NexGen Leader and Manager of Marketing and Communications, Rachel, was a featured speaker at the 4th annual Maryland Sports Business Conference!
Rachel co-founded the @marylandsbc when she was a student at the University of Maryland—as she and her teammate became passionate about elevating UMD’s presence in the communities UMD cares about, especially in serving students, professionals, athletes and their careers. As purpose-driven NexGen’s they architected, built and launched the inaugural conference, virtual in the first year, hosting roughly 50 viewers. This year, in its 4th year, the MSBC hosted over 220 in person from the sports business community. Rachel now serves on the alumni advisory board for the new Sports Management Program at the University of Maryland.
Rachel is a NexGen leader, who brings her extraordinary NexGen perspective and depth of experience within the artist, athlete, advocate, and entrepreneurship spheres to our Nucleus team. She develops creative and inventive social marketing strategies to help share the Nucleus mission with the world: to inspire and unleash the world’s NexGen leaders. The Sports Management Program at the University of Maryland is improving and growing in popularity among students.
Collaborative efforts with the School of Public Health’s Department of Kinesiology, the Robert H. Smith School of Business and Maryland Athletics made the program for students to have freedom in exploring sports business. Now, the program’s second cohort is twice the size of the first.
“The whole scope of the program is to help students who want to go into the field of sports, whether that be in journalism, in business (or) kinesiology,” said Andrew Breza, a sophomore journalism major and member of the program. “Whatever you really want to do, they try to make it an option for you.”

Recap of our first ever SMP Signature Site Visit: Philadelphia! The experience included a tour of Wells Fargo Center, networking dinner with alumni and professionals in the industry, and ended with the Gavitt Tipoff Games as we cheered on Maryland Basketball against Villanova!
Before @terpsfootball takes on Northwestern this week, Cohort 1 got a full facility tour of the incredible Jones-Hill House. After, they heard from Annie Peppard, the Director of Operations at Maryland Football and learned more about facilitates and management!
