"As a first generation university student, I would have never imagined having the opportunity to visit such a rich and vibrant city—learning the history, art, and culture embedded within its cobblestoned streets and spray painted walls. Thankfully through the Maymester program, this dream became a three-week reality!" USC Kaufman BFA student Summer Vu turns back the clock on her time in Berlin during USC Kaufman's Berlin Maymester. Today, USC Kaufman joins the wider university community to observe Juneteenth, a national holiday commemorating the day the Union army arrived in Texas to liberate the state’s enslaved population on June 19, 1865. We honor that moment by continuing the fight for racial equality, creating a more diverse equitable and inclusive school, and celebrating the triumphs of Black Americans. We invite you to read Juneteenth remarks by Dean Julia M. Ritter at the link in our bio.
