Exploring some more abandoned deep mines. I worked on the surface of this one, Beechfork number 2. This is tunnel they put under the 4 lane to run the belt line through so it could cross the road and run to the prep plant.
If you’ve ever been going south on route 3, crossing the county line into Johnson County and noticed the big dip in the road, that’s this drain pipe that the belt line went through.
I always assumed they covered it back up when they pulled the belt line out and shut the mine down.
Judging from the water running into it I’m sure the entire mine is probably flooded.
I found the opening to an abandoned deep mine I've been looking for over 30 years. I finally figured it out, basically hidden in plain sight next to the four lane.
