I wanted to write something special about these tables, so of course this post was pushed to the very end of the day. I hope there is something left in my brain at this point... here goes nothing.
I inherited these beautiful vintage Baker Furniture side tables from my parents who inherited them from my grandmother, and I'm still trying to figure out if maybe my great grandmother had them in her home in San Francisco as well. When I was cleaning out my parents' home last summer these tables resided in the family room and were covered with books, glasses, coasters, lamps, and everything else my father felt he needed right at hand. I thought they were cool, albeit a little large, but didn't think much about them. Once I started cleaning out the house, donating, organizing, and selling furniture (what would eventually give me the inspiration for Vinteige), I began to focus more on the "brown furniture" that was prevalent throughout the house. Some of it was 90s brown-- beautiful but it was my parents' furniture, and who wants that?!?!😂 Other pieces were midcentury, not mid-century modern, but mid-century. I started to see the beauty of the furniture through a new lens-- not as a daughter dismissing her parents' old stuff-- but as a fledgling connoisseur. It's funny how that happens.
In my 20s-30s I had a couple of my grandmother's pieces that moved with me from apartment to apartment, but the deep appreciation for the quality, craftsmanship, and history I feel now for vintage furniture goes far beyond the nostalgic feelings I felt for it in those days.
I've held on to these two Baker side tables because I think they are beautiful, and because they have had a special purpose-- they keep my sons from jumping over the back of the couch onto the cushions.😮😂 Now that our house is officially a warehouse for our business, I realized that it might be time to let these tables go. Decorating with young boys 🙄. I covet the beautiful custom dining table made of walnut with a rosewood inlay base and the gorgeously formidable Ralph Lauren dresser. Someday…

A wife’s (and business partner’s) plea. Please buy this wall unit before Mr.Vinteige devotes an entire Friday to installing it.
