Isaura, is a name borrowed from my favorite author’s book, Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino (I swear it’s just a coincidence that my fav author and one of my fav regional styles of music share the same name). Calvino wrote my favorite book of all time, Cosmicomics
Initially, I just liked the name Isaura. The book is about the Venetian explorer Marco Polo recounting cities from his travels to a stationary Kublai Khan, emperor of the Mongolian empire, who is fearing his empire crumbling soon. The cities recounted are fantastical and whimsical. I have included the entire story of Isaura, one of the Thin Cities, in the above slides. It’s only a page long
Once I decided on this name for my music project, it did occur to me that much like the endless supply of water in Isaura, music is a resource that is constantly extracted with seemingly no end in sight. It’s also why I always use the ⛲️ emoji as a sign off
For our upcoming
@radioisaura set at
@parttimelover.hifi during their 2 year anniversary month, I asked
@illsavino to illustrate a tableau of Isaura. Per usual, his talents did not disappoint
I hope you enjoy the story. I highly recommend everyone exploring the work of Italo Calvino. He’s one of the most heady and silly minds there ever was. And we’ll see y’all this Saturday 6/29 at
