I’m convinced I would never have survived growing up in the filter generation…and even as a grown woman, SHEW. It’s a total mind game. 🤯
Case in point, I was filming something not too long ago in IG and didn’t realize I accidentally swiped over to the “Paris” filter…when I realized that filter was on, I immediately swiped back over to remove it and watched what I had recorded again without the filter. Y’all, suddenly I felt WORSE about how I looked. Ain’t that some mess?!
It’s uncomfortable showing up on this platform that can be filled with filtered faces, and playing the comparison game…but I always bring my focus back to my daughter, my niece, and the future generations of little girls behind them. Everything I do, I do to show my little girl that she doesn’t NEED a filter, a certain body type, or a certain look to be beautiful…at any age. I have struggled in my late 30s seeing my face and body change…I mean, for the love - I grew up in the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s when airbrushed & photoshop magazines pushed shocking diet culture. When aging as a woman (not a man) was completely unacceptable and mocked. So yeah, I certainly have decades of unhealthy views to rewire and am certainly a work in progress.
All this to say, this is your reminder that you ARE beautiful. You are beautiful with the filter, but you are especially beautiful without the filter. Lines, wrinkles, freckles, moles, texture, pimples, pores…they are there because you are a living breathing human, and certainly isn’t something we should be ashamed of.
👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼I’ve found that sharing about my insecurities helps to remove their power, so if you would indulge me - share in the comments what YOU feel insecure about. I’ll go first in the comments…let’s take away their power together and show each other that we ALL deserve to feel confident and beautiful in our own skin! 🫶🏼
