A Delta flight on its way to Amsterdam with nearly 300 people aboard was forced to divert to JFK after some of the in-flight meal service had been spoiled, the airline said. Flight crews on the Airbus A330 sought medical advice after discovering the spoiled food. Experts recommended the diversion to Queens. The flight, which originated in Detroit, landed safely at about 4 a.m. Medical crews onsite met with the aircraft to evaluate and treat anyone experiencing symptoms. The FAA said crew members reported “several sick passengers” prior to landing. The Port Authority said that 24 people, including crew members and passengers were evaluated upon landing. All refused medical attention. Officials said passengers were provided hotel rooms and transportation. They were rebooked on another flight to their destination.

A Bronx car crash that set off an argument between two drivers turned deadly for a bystander on Tuesday, according to law enforcement. At around 4:30 p.m. on Phelan Place in Morris Heights, two cars collided and the drivers got into a heated argument. According to a report, one of the drivers, a woman, exited her car armed with a bat before calling a man believed to be her boyfriend to the scene. That man began fighting with the other driver as well as several bystanders. He allegedly stabbed the victim, 29-year-old Ronald Gomez-Mesa, multiple times after chasing him down the block. Gomez-Mesa was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “Very respectful guy, you know, fair, not abusive, a good buy,” Jose Peguero told ABC7 of his friend Gomez-Mesa. “So the lady got out of her car with a bat in one hand and her phone in the other hand, and she made a phone call. And that’s when this guy showed up. All I know is that she did call him, he showed up right away, and he started trying to punch people, stab people, without asking questions, without asking questions. That had nothing to do with Ronald.” No arrests have yet been made. An investigation is ongoing.

According to New York City’s restaurateurs – a 6 pm reservation is the new 8 o’clock. And according to what they tell the New York Post – it all happened after the coronavirus. But New Yorkers all have different routines – ones they mostly kept during and after the pandemic. If anyone remembers – during the coronavirus pandemic - restaurants had to close by ten o’clock, people were working from home – meaning they were cutting out commutes that forced them to eat later dinners – and could go straight to the kitchen. That apparently stuck since demand for reservations between 5 pm and 7:30 remains high. But not for everyone – who still holds an 8 o’clock table in the highest regard. A lot of people tell our street reporter @natnownews they haven’t really noticed. Funny enough – restaurants have noticed the shift since many of their happy hours are now 4pm to 6pm rather than 5pm to 7pm. @iheartradio #dinner #reservations #pandemic #nyc

Former New York City mayor and personal lawyer to ex-President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, has been disbarred in New York for making false statements about the 2020 election. The Manhattan Appeals Court ruled that Giuliani’s misconduct was severe, as he repeatedly lied in various forums to undermine the country’s electoral system and destroy citizens’ confidence in the government’s legitimacy. Giuliani’s license was suspended in 2021. He has faced criminal charges in both Arizona and Georgia for his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results. A Giuliani spokesperson announced plans to appeal.

Following the decision by Governor Kathy Hochul to postpone the start of congestion pricing, a new report says she’s facing pressure to implement the tolling program but at a lower cost to drivers. The New York Times reports legislators are urging her to bring back a modified form of congestion pricing, with a toll lower than the $15 that was originally planned for drivers traveling below 60th Street. The plan was expected to bring in $1 billion in annual revenue for the MTA and the decision to hit the brakes on it has left the agency without the money needed for many of its capital projects. Hochul postponed the start of congestion pricing, arguing that it would hurt NYC’s economic recovery.

NJ Transit riders are now paying 15-percent more for their tickets, with train riders feeling the brunt – especially after June was riddled with service disruptions in and out of New York Penn Station. Whether or not improvements are made to the system this time around – this isn’t the last time riders will see a fare increase. In fact – next year starts NJ Transit’s annual three-percent fare hike. That means riders can expect a fare hike every July until NJ Transit says otherwise. @iheartradio

NJ Transit riders are paying 15 percent more for train and bus fares as of today. Despite weeks of problems on the railroads, including multiple hours long train delays, the agency did not postpone the fare hike as many hoped. The increase marks the first time in nine years that NJ Transit has raised its fares. NJ Transit says it needs the extra revenue from the fare hike to fill a budget gap. Beginning next year, the agency will impose an annual 3 percent fare increase.

Traffic congestion may present a major problem for the U.S. economy, and the city with the worst traffic congestion is New York. A new report by transportation analytics company INRIX found that the typical U.S. driver lost 42 hours to traffic congestion in 2023, the equivalent of a full work week and $733 worth of time. But New York City drivers lost 101 hours to traffic jams. The delays cost the drivers an average of $1,762 in earnings and about $9.1. billion to the city’s economy. Furthermore, the NYC urban area is more congested than it was before the COVID pandemic, where drivers lost an average of 91 hours to traffic jams in 2019. The study also found that ridership on mass transit is down 28 percent since 2019, though it has increased somewhat since 2022. Congestion cost the U.S. economy more than $70.4 billion last year, a 15 percent increase from 2022.

New York City’s public transit system will suspend work on a planned subway line expansion and halt certain maintenance and improvement projects because of a $16.5 billion shortfall tied to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s decision to suspend implementation of congestion pricing in Manhattan. The MTA board formally voted on Wednesday to delay the tolling program, in accordance with the governor’s decision. Congestion pricing was on track to launch June 30 before Hochul’s announcement. The their meeting, MTA board members explained that they had no power to reverse Hochul’s decision. The state law establishing congestion pricing requires sign-off from the governor’s transportation department. Hochul promised to fill the funding gap cause by the congestion pricing suspension, but hasn’t presented a specific plan. Until or unless money is found to replace the anticipated toll revenue, the MTA will need to slash its capital budget by at least 30 percent. The agency’s current plan focuses on maintaining current service. It hals a subway expansion and a retreat from improving existing services with trains, track improvements and maintenance. The new budget also cuts about $2 billion from plans to make more stations wheelchair-accessible.

Forget about regularly scheduled programming because President Biden and former President Trump are set to take the stage for their first debate tonight. The debate is set for nine p.m. ET and will air on CNN. If you just want to listen – you can do that on @wor710 . As our street reporter @natnownews says: ratings should be through the roof since a Quinnipiac University poll shows more than 70-percent of voters plan to tune in. At this time – Quinnipiac reveals Trump has a slight lead over Biden – but what unfolds during the 90 minute spar could change that. The candidates will face some limitations, including the first time microphones will be muted when someone isn’t speaking. There will also be no live studio audience – both candidates can only have a pen, paper, and water on stage. Experts say Trump is expected press Biden on the border and migrant crisis while Biden could use Trump’s felony convictions against him. @iheartradio #politics #debate #trump #biden #clinton #president

Improvements for the MTA are coming to a screeching halt as Governor Hochul sticks by her decision to suspend congestion pricing. The agency announced $16.5 billion worth of projects will be put on the back burner, including the expansion of the 2nd Avenue Subway and accessibility improvements at over 20 subway stations. Our street reporter @natnownews was at the Pro-congestion pricing rally held by New Yorkers ahead of the MTA’s meeting in Lower Manhattan, calling on the governor to reverse her decision and start charging drivers at least 15-dollars to enter below Manhattan’s 60th Street during peak hours, which was set to go into effect in just a few days. The line for members of the public to join the MTA’s meeting stretched around the corner of the agency’s headquarters, many opposed to the pause that leaves a 15-billion-dollar gap in the capital budget. As the Riders Alliance touts the impact traffic has on the city’s economy, a new report shows New York City has the world’s worst congestion since drivers spend roughly four days stuck in traffic. @iheartradio
