Drum roll for the July 2024 #XPNArtistToWatch : @juliaprattmusic !!!
Since her first single's release in 2018, “All the Girls are Crazy,” Julia Pratt has cultivated a singular folksy sound that’s somehow both ethereal and grounded. The Philly-rooted artist released her latest EP, 'Family Feud' on May 10th, which is a powerful exploration of identity. In the accompanying short film, told in vignettes mirroring each song, Pratt’s spirit navigates both her childhood home and the natural world.

Out of over 300 entries to the first-ever WXPN 24 Hour Song Challenge, “Dear June” rose to the top. Congrats @khalil.amaru for being named our grand prize winner! He gets to perform the song at #XPNFest , gets recording time at @milkboystudio and more.
The song is a beautiful soul tune telling the story of a summer fling where the season is personified as a character named June. “This means so much to me because ‘Dear June’ came literally through tooth and nail,” he said.

On his new album, Eric Slick wanted to break his own self-imposed rules about what his music should or shouldn’t sound like.
The longtime drummer of @drdogmusic who’s also played on records from The War on Drugs, Bethany Cosentino, Robyn Hitchcock and Ruston Kelly had been asked by more than a few people why his music didn’t reflect his playful and irreverent personality. So, he stopped worrying about pleasing everyone, and made a record that screams Eric Slick.
The resulting album, called New Age Rage, is ten tracks of pure, unadulterated fun. It’s production is dizzying and whimsical, Lyrically it taps into our collective anxiety and unease. But it also has a song based on the cult movie Ratboy. Like I said, it’s very Eric. I caught up with Slick to unpack it all, plus how he found out he was playing on a Taylor Swift song. - @kallao
